What's snake oil? are there dry K&N filters? or just don't add oil?

Snake oil as in magic elixer, hype, no tangible benefit, may have negative impact
Better for the seller than buyer

Paper is solid, a pressed solid, not mesh like the kn, woven fibers
So filtration is by diffusion, not like a sieve
Think of a membrane vs a screen
Particles smaller than the mesh opening will get thru

My post filter airboxes were always cleaner with an oem filter than a kn
With the kn there would be some grit, which means some was passed thru the engine

Also seemed to improve mpg a bit
Honestly the main advantage is cost over the lifetime of the vehicle and less crap in landfills
Moot for gas suckers like these lol
I have reservations about filtration efficiency so I stick with oem paper
But really no difference, personal choice

On my recent 5800 mile trip I averaged 20.5 avg speed 55 mph
+1 I have always used K&N and no problems ever. Benefit is washability, dry, light oil and seat them well. No issues. Over-oiling could be the issue...Some aftermarket filters also just don't fit properly. Gotta be careful of the fit and seating.

Iam a fan of K & N. I installed the filters on all my cars. However, when I installed the K & N on my c63, the engine light came on ( code is Bank 1 running too lean). Once I switched it back to my oem filters, reset it. Engine light never come back on (after 1000miles)
