Burning smell- follow up, with question
Hi folks
i recently posted re: burning smell coming from the drivers side front wheel well( it seemed), with no spills obvious to me, no brake/wheel issues apparent and stable fluid levels.
Thank you to all who had suggestions, esp Maximus.
Dealer inspection apparently confirms valve cover gasket leak; being replaced next week.
Is there an easy was for me to look at this and confirm, once I remove the plastic engine cover?
The car is barely 4 years and 19,000 miles, with recent eurocharged tune, mostly driven regularly; is'nt it too soon to have such a gasket leak?
Thank you.

Yes that is surprising. Not common.
But this would explain no spots on the floor as the leaking oil would burn on the extremely hot headers. Hence the smell.
You don't need to remove the engine cover. Instead I would inspect the exhaust manifold by removing the airboxes. GL

I had the exact same issue with my '11 at 150,000km.
Valve-cover gaskets do fail, and replacement is pretty simple.

Thanks again for the replies.
Yes Maximus.... trying to drive it more. Fortunately, living in a small town not needing much of a commute. The previous owner had driven only 14,000 miles in 3 years.
