Best exhaust tips to prevent carbon buildup?

I have the stock chrome tail pipes and hate the black carbon residue I see every time I clean my car. Thats the only part that doesnt get completely clean each time.

Does anyone have any tricks or specific brand that resists the adherence of the residue? Does the black series tips do any better?

I have aluminum tips on my porsche and they do the same thing.

I was referred to this product which worked really well on removing the residue. Worked like a charm:

All tips will carbon up if the car runs rich at all. I clean mine with an old wash mitt and the end of the soap in the wash bucket. Comes off easily if you do it frequently. For the tiny black bits that stick like glue on the outside of the tips I use Never Dull wadding and they clean off with a light rub.

This has been the best product I have ever used in terms of eliminating carbon residue/soot in a manner of seconds:

http://www.autogeek.net/auto-metal-polish.html

It also works well as a preventative measure as I only have to use it once every 4-6 months.

Just avoid all together and paint them black... But then again, I don't think the chrome looks right on this car.

If you are unsure, just use PlastiDip... then you can peel it off if you don't like it. I did mine that way and have had it for 4 months now with no issues so far.

Did you do this on the car? Very interested in doing this quick mod now, read up online people have used everything from professional ceramic coating, to power coating (mixed results), to regular "bbq" black paint (high heat), to plastidip.

Are the tips easy to remove?

I did it right on the car. The beauty of Plastidip is if you get overspray on anything, you just let it dry and wipe/peel it away.

Here are a few pics for reference. They are actually getting a bit dirty, and have a few spots I'd like to redo from the first time I did it, so I may peel them off and redo them this weekend if it stops raining.

Plus, I did them in a hurry, so I did not go all the way around the bottom side, but cant see it unless you are under the car.

And the Plastidip is holding up so far? I've had it on all my emblems and grill and its been great, just not sure about exhaust heat? Also, no ill effects for peeling it off thanks to that heat?

Thanks! And yes, plastidip is holding up great! I had it on a set of wheesl on my 540, took that thing through car washes, winter, salt, and never had an issue... until I had to get new tires. The tire machine shredded the plastidip off the edges of the wheels, but I just peeled it off and wheels looked brand new underneath!

Never-dull. Use that every time you wash your car. Put a lot of pressure when you use it. It seriously is the best thing I've ever used on tailpipes
