Engine temp normal?

Engine temp seems to be kind of high on the gauge. Cold start drove it 15 mins or so and don't really understand the digital numbers.

Most of use see 215-217º/197º driving normally. Depending on ambient temp/weather conditions/location I've seen up to 233º oil "driving normally" while coolant holds at 197º.

221 degrees is 100% perfectly normal/safe.

It's -1 F here (without factoring in windchill). As a result, my oil temperature made it up to 230 degrees F today for a brief period until the oil cooler kicked in. Then, the temperature dropped 15 degrees to settle at 215 degrees F.

I opened your photo and I see the problem. All the oil has run down to the left side of the engine!

Since you don't understand the digital numbers...
Top one is oil temp
Bottom one is engine coolant temp. (Fahrenheit version of your gauge on the left)

I dropped 5 degrees off the coolant with water wetter, never sees above 194 these days. Even seems to have impacted over all cooling and oil has been staying lower as well. Looking to see the change in oil temps with a fresh change prior to the track next week,

Hey what do you mean by this because i had the wifes car on the hoist the other day and noticed a heep of oil under the car in the front passenger side tray (left side because i'm Aus)

I looked at the petrol cap and it had dried oil around it on the outside.. it looked like it had leaked.

Could it have leaked all the way to the bottom?
What could have caused it? Too much engine heat?

It's been hot here in australia approx 40 degrees celsius and was driving her car in the heat.

It reached about 120deg celsius or 248 farenheit

I was told it could be power steering pump leaking as there was hardly any oil in the power steering bottle.

Thanks! Was just making sure those numbers within spec and that the temp needle being so high was normal. I DD a 335i and the temp needle is usually at around half.

Loving this car by the way, the first car I've ever owned that's scared me lol. Here's some pics

I'm dead on 215 normal driving in fall/ cooler weather
Get a lil more aggressive and not outside and I'm in the 223-225 region.
Like others said not too bad don't worry
