I'm sure it's easier for them to swap the motor but I'd assume it could be rebuilt however the labor involved in that could be quite pricey and I'd assume it's cheaper for them to pay for half an engine
I'd get it running good enough to sell it to carmax for more than 5k

hahaCar never spit a code or CEL. They didn't even tear the complete engine apart they looked at the cams and top end but simply told me that because they found metal shavings in the filter it would need a new motor. Level of service has been terrible at least properly diagnose the car issue right?
As others have said repeatedly, take it to a competent indie who has experience with the engine.
