Alternative to the Michelin pss?
I went with the Continental ExtremeContact DW from Discount tire. With the ebay coupon, they matched the price and gave me $100 bucks off. Total $701 for all 4 tires, installation, and disposal. The technician even threw in the TPMS rebuild kits for free if need be replaced. Depending on how these tires treat me, I might want to try the PSS when I need new tires again. Anyways, et the fun begin!
I've just picked up a 2013 C63 with just under 17k miles with the original Conti 5P's. They still have much usable tread easily passing the penny test and with fairly even wear. Its surprising after reading about tires only lasting 5k up to 10k if you're lucky. While my tires seem that they will last a bit longer I want to get a set of PSS's. The present Conti's seem a bit noisy. Do Conti's get noisier as they age? Will a new set of Michelins be quieter? Any ideas or comments?
Just had the RE-71Rs put on yesterday. I was going to replace just the worn rear PSS but two delays in shipping caused me to reconsider and splurge.
I expected incremental improvements from the PSS considering it's such a well-regarded tire, but the difference is definitely worth the step up in category from "Max" to "Extreme" performance. I'm running OEM sizes on the stock 18s and the straight-line grip is now where it should be, even with the Eurocharged tune. It was difficult with the PSS, but I can't really even push the car hard enough on public roads to find the cornering limits. I have some track time scheduled soon to feel them out.
They are somewhat noisier, but I haven't really noticed much of a difference in ride quality. I'm not holding my breath on how much mileage I get out of them. I am aligned to minimum factory spec for rear toe-in (0.28) so that should help, but I'll feel happy if I get over 6,000 out of the rears.
