Yes - although as Gerry suggested, you'd only do that a couple of times to form a baseline to see how quickly it drops in the specific oil you choose to use and your particular vehicle usage patterns / driving style, and based on that determine how frequently you need to change it. If you have multiple cars and/or drive only 6,000 km a year in each and use a half-decent synthetic, it would almost be pointless because the TBN would never drop to the point when it would be the 'weakest link' in the oil's performance.

Wonder if you may have some information or insight. I have a 2018 GLC300. Had it's first service in July, 2018 and in November I checked the oil and found it just at the bottom of the "safe" mark on the dipstick. I added a quart of Mobil 1 and that brought it up to 3/4 between "safe" and "full" . I currently have 12626 on the 2.0 turbo engine, so I put about 3,000 miles on it since service. Is this a bit more consumption than normal. I still have 3 years left on the warranty so it's just a matter of keeping an eye on the oil level. Any thought?
Aside: Dipstick on my GLC is a cable with a brown plastic marker at the bottom. Very hard to read. I have a large oversized, white nylon wire tie and I marked the min and max on that, using the dipstick as a reference. This way I can read the oil level easily and also see the condition of the oil.
Thanks!

^ This. You might want to ask in the correct forum, but I second the zip tie removal from the oil dipstick ASAP. And, if the car is a 2018 and you have concerns about oil consumption, you should talk to your dealer / service center.

Hey, guys. I'm not attaching a zip tie to the dipstick. That would be stupid. Have any of you seen these very large 28 inch, very thick white nylon wire ties? I marked it as per the OEM dipstick and I use it only to check the oil level.

It's been a great car! I change the oil every 5,000 miles with M1 0w40, but after the last oil change and around 4,000 miles after the last oil change, the message came on that said "check oil at next fuel stop!" I checked it and it was 5 fn quarts low!!! I was shocked!!! Why would the light come on so late. Unfortunately it also now has and engine vibration. I'm thinking possibly catastrophic cylinder failure right out of the blue, and fouled spark plug? Hopefully it's just a bad PCV and oil has been burning thought combustion, and also fouled spark plug.
This is troubling! That's a lot of oil in a very short period!
