Which header/exhaust combo will give me this sound?

Looking for a header and exhaust combo that will give me this sound for my C63 Black! It sounds almost like a Maserati!

Originally I was leaning towards iPE, but it doesn't sound as refined. Is the sound coming from the header design?

Just get a set of long-tubes with a cat-less x-pipe throw a Akrapovic slip on and you're done.

Or just do a long tube setup with no cats and stock muffler and resonator like my car.

I can promise you first hand Long tubes + Akrapovic will sound nothing like that SLS.

The Akrapavic rear mufflers significantly quiet the car down and drastically change the tone.

Your best bet OP would be MBH or American Racing Headers, And X-Pipe, Rear Resonator Delete And keeping your stock rear mufflers for that type of sound.

Thank you, I was thinking Weistec headers, X pipe and iPe Rear section. The Akra sounds too quiet to me.

Those Super Sprint headers on the SLS in the video, appear to be equal length. If that's the case, it does make a noticeable difference in the note.

Looks like the Supersprint headers for the SLS are extremely long. I believe its the length of the headers that gives it such a beautiful note. Is there a long tube header for the C63 Black Series?

I have long tubes and straight pipes with 200 cell cats. Its sounds like a touring car. Under light throttle its quite around down besides occasional pops on decel. Wide open throttle and its sounds crazy.

Trust me you do not want to run this set up. No cats and no mufflers with long tubes is just stupidly stupidly loud, and the drone will be beyond mind-numbing. You might grin for the first week but it will get pretty tiresome pretty quickly. It is just too loud for any sane person, not to mention everyone on the road with you will want to beat you like a red-headed step child for being just plain annoying as hell. Any passenger will will likely prefer to get a bus. Mufflers or at least a whopping set of resonators are a must with headers and no cats.
That SLS has been ruined IMHO

That is something you'd do on a car you race on a track with ear plugs and a full face helmet.

honestly, i grew out of loud exhausts when i was still driving japanese turbo cars. as i got older, those noises got tiring real quick.
i bought a nice euro for the refinement, not loud obnoxious noises.
having said that, i also own a 1970 ford mustang boss 302 with a custom exhaust which is pretty loud, but i can live with that noise as i dont drive it everyday, and the sound of an old school muscle car is something that no one ever gets tired of

the sls just sounded terrible

Tuned C63- MBH headers, no cats - YouTube
Your car sounds great. Is there any drone with the catless setup and no resonator? i have the mbh headers with the oem secondary cats in place and im going to order the mids with x, is it worth stright piping the resonator?

thanks

i don't have any drone. Im not sure what it sounds like with your current set up and how it would change it but if theres no emissions restrictions id say run catless mids with the x pipe and removing the resonator with straight pipes in its place!

i posted a video few posts up honestly its only loud over 3500 rpm... I was considering doing a muffler delete to have a full free flowing exhaust, but instead I'm probably gonna get electric cutouts which dump right after the headers so it can be loud when i want it and i can quiet it down when i need to!

NICE!!! I'm doing the same on my CLS55 - X-pipe, 2nd cats and reso delete, still have primary cats + stock headers... for now I see you're near Chicago, are you having them installed around here, or in FL ? Just curious, trying to find a good shop to get them done at. Did you go with the Y-pipe version or the low-profile oval type? I was told the oval kind will not work, at least not with my CLS. Y-pipe is a much easier install, especially up by the headers.

Did you say there's no drone on your 63 with no cats and no res? Was always wondering about that. Do you have stock mufflers? Sorry if I missed that earlier.. *Edit, I see the stock mufflers now

Please please post a video here once they're done My qtp 3" kit ships on 6/15, very excited.

Stock mufflers and no drone! If I'm not mistaken and if the cls and e have the same mufflers, they are quiet do some searches on the w211 forum a lot of them are running c63 mufflers its less restrictive. Im get my custom work done at at FS tuning in orlando! I haven't ordered the cut outs yet and not sure which ones I'm gonna get but hoping to get them done sometime in the next month or so! where did you get your cutouts from?

Got them from 2Kracing.com, they are $399 for the QTP 3.0" kit. Already had the remote control kit for $75 i think from Summit racing. I believe the part number is QTP-QTEC60CP. $21 shipping fee, but I got out of it because of the 2 week delay in availability so $399 total, best price anywhere for these. They are minimum $437 + shipping everywhere else.

THANK YOU for mentioning the C63 mufflers. I started researching those on the 55 cars and that is the sound I want. I am basically trying to emulate that loud bark of the C63, on my CLS55. I know it'll never be 100% the same, but I'd like to get as close as possible. Right now with the 2nd cats and res delete, it's still just not loud enough. It's loud, 0 drone, nice rumble, but it's not where I need it. I like the cutout option because I can open it up and be obscenely loud if I want, then close it up and have the somewhat loud AMG growl, all at the push of a button

Definitely keep my eyes on the for sale section for those C63 mufflers.
