This has probably been covered in another thread, but since this thread is up talking about HP gains on an otherwise stock c63, are there genuine HP gains on just an ECU tune on our naturally aspirated engines?
Dinan says no --
(about 6:30 mark), crys foul on all ECU chip tuners' statements about gains without hardware changes like headers etc.
I'm doing the EC tune regardless, along with installing a WaveTrac LSD on Monday ('14 507), planning on adding some hardware mods down the road, but interested in feedback on this.

EDIT - noticed that you have a 507, while you will see some improvement, your gains won't be nearly as large as someone like myself who has a regular C63. Headers will require a tune anyways so you're working towards the same goal. More power.

Dinan is a factory supported company for BMW, not sure how it is relevant to MB... The reason you really don't see a lot of gains with NA M cars (both of my e46 M3's had a tune) is because their engines are nearly tapped out on power from the get go. OTOH, the M156 is detuned in our cars from the factory, so it makes perfect sense why we see much better gains from aftermarket tunes for our cars.

507 - You make a good point though, as there are differences between tunes, so do your homework.
Some people are happy with seat of the pants feel when they purchase a tune......
Some people want to see verified upgrade in hp/tq via dyno, OR better yet 2nd trip to the track. I'm in this camp.
Are there people out there simply changing the throttle rates (similar to a throttle box), and calling this a tune? Meaning 50% throttle acts like your old 100% throttle... so people mis-interpret this as more HP/TQ..... peak hp/tq do not change just the throttle inputs are more touchy. If this makes sense.
I would want a dyno tune and track runs bef/after to verify it's not just a throttle input change.
From my experience with the V4 or V5 on my ML63, it made a heck of a difference..... and I hated to drive it after I put the stock tune back on. I can say there was some bucking/surging in stop/go traffic going 10-20mph..... resetting adapations helped for a while..... but it would come back. To correct for this I would drive it aggressively in this zone, but that got old if I had to daily drive in stop-go traffic. I'm not calling anyone/thing out, just pointing out an observation. I never tracked the ml, but it seemed to make more power with the tune. I know the guys are always tweaking the tunes, and I'm sure that little bug has been worked out, or perhaps there was something quirky about my ml+driving style.
I too have a 2014 (non 507) C63 bone stock with 11.5K miles....... I'll be adding tune/headers in the next 12 mo's...... so watching/reading/researching my mods.
My tune choices:
1. EC is in town. Great guys, always seem to have the best deals.
2. Make another road trip to Klee in Co Springs...... bullet proof work.
3. Renntech from dealer... but Ouch the price

Appreciated Betrezra. EC is installing the LSD and I'm doing the before and after Dyno w/tune and handheld. They are local for me as well and that's a big plus, as well as their rep. Haven't tracked it yet, planning on it but will have to be before and afters on hardware mods - Looking forward to hearing about how, post mods, you took out your wife's W205 (!) Btw wondering if you're in the Sugar Land area -- saw a white '14 white c63 at Lifetime Fitness a while back. You don't see many of our c63's in Houston (a plus).

Yeah that was prob her car.. now mine hah!
LMK what you get on the dyno. I'll be doing the same soon.
Either EC or Kleemann.
Let's do a track day when the weather get's better.
It's funny riding with her now in the W205...... rather scary and she's get's used to the touchy throttle..... she does NOT need a tune on that car for sure.

too bad you're gonna learn the hard way again...the housing needs to be shaved either way...accept it and move on, these are C-classes lol not la ferraris

I didn't explain in the post, the shop is warrantying install of the Quaiffe but wouldn't warranty the WaveTrac, which from the forwarded pics I received looks to require a fair amount of housing shaving. Not interested in installing an LSD with no warranty on the work while voiding my factory warranty.
#39
So this is actually incorrect. The Quaife is a perfect fit (there are two versions), no shaving required. The WaveTrac requires fairly significant shaving of the housing. Quaife installed today, without issue.

It actually varies from car to car. Mine didn't need shaving for the Wavetrac but I did know that shaving might have been a possibility. Glad you got one to work though!

That's interesting -- the guys at EC said they don't have any issues with the Quaife (one version is slightly smaller). But yeah mine is the '14 '507 and certainly makes sense that the model versions and years would have different housing sizes.
