Well since we all LOVE oil threads I figured I'd add some fuel to the fire ....I ran 15w50 for about 3 oil changes and saw no ill affects from it, and YES, the mobil 15w50 is 229.5 approved. Prior to that I ran liqui-moly for a long time and it was great. Hopefully tomorrow I will be switching to Castrol 10w60 and giving it a try. I live in a God awful hot climate(78deg-105deg) and my engine is approaching the 250 mark so a little thicker oil is prolly a good thing anyway. I know that MB has their oil recommendations but I trust THE MAN a lot more than MB when it comes to how our M156s actually operate in the real world and what they need to have the best longevity. Tasos swears that for the Middle Eastern climate that he ONLY uses 10w60 for the m156, and my climate is very similar to the Middle East temperature wise. Flame on!!!!

My e63 has 105k miles, I live in Florida and tried Mobil 1 0w-40, and the car is sucking this through crank case breather and the intake manifold. I fitted a catch can and it was filled in about an hour. From my experience it is too thin in this climate (70+), it looked less dense than water when I drained it. These are hand built engines, oil weight is temperature reflective/dependent and yes my piston rings are probably worn out. These are large capacity engines built to rev - either rebuild the engine or use thicker oil to protect the rings is my experience. And I guess my point is not all engines are 100% identical. Temperature makes a big difference to oil performance hence the numerous different weights available. Rant completed lol

My brother initially used Mobil 1 0W/40 in his twin turbo LS2 powered car and the oil pressure gauge would fall to zero after a fang at idle. The oil pressure light didn't come on though so there was still some oil pressure just not enough to register on the oil pressure gauge! He ended up switching to Castrol 10W/60 and the car has run fine in this level of modification for the last 12 or so years.
I seem to recall the Corvette owners manuals were recommending Mobil 1 15w/50 if the car was being tracked instead of the standard 5w/30 fill.
I've been using Castrol Edge 0w/40 in my Ford G6E turbo for the last 9 years and runs fine with zero oil consumption. I was thinking of trying it in the C63....anyone have any UOA on the Castrol in this weight in the C63?

That’s great about other cars. I also ran M1 15W-50 in a high-strung Talon back in the day. It was the right oil for that use.
Those cars have completely different engine architecture and requirements than an M156. You use anything thicker than a 5W-40 at your own jeopardy as the engine and it’s small oil passages were not designed for it. Regardless of what it “sounds like” or if the oil runs out “like water”, the fact is that the engineers who designed and built the engine specified a specific weight range for a reason. If you’re not running UOA’s after oil changes and quantifying if the oil is good, bad, or otherwise, and going off of prior experience with other cars or what you “feel” is the right oil by look or sound, then you’re doing it wrong.

^^^^ Not sure if your post is in response to mine....but for the C63 I was suggesting Castrol 0W/40.....and was requesting UOA's.....problem?

Ok guys I was about to try m1 0w40 but the post above scared me lol.
My last 3 oil changes were the new molygen 5w40 but want to try a thinner oil to see if the car runs better.
Stick with molygen? Go back to 8100? Try rotella?

Scratch, I like the Rotella T6. My Blackstone UOAs have looked great on it especially considering how hard I run the car.
The M1 0W-40 is a great oil too.
You really can’t go wrong with either.

Just had my car serviced by MB and supplied them with Castrol Edge 0w/40 for the fill. See how we go.

Best oil
Mort did an Oil Analysis on it. It's not that great. The Mobil 1 0W40 Euro formula is a better choice.

here in UAE we have multiple options as the weather is extremely hot we suggest to have thicker oil, need suggestions

If you are overheating the oil - a known issue in a C63 with the MCT in ANY climate - you need a bigger oil cooler, not a thicker oil.
