11/12 UPDATE

Juergen@HMS sent me some information this morning about the dimensions of the fenders and very slight difference between PFL/FL rear bumper card only. There was a miscommunication from his technician and some information was incorrect.

CLIFF NOTES:

HMS Fenders are 35MM (1.37 in) each side, not 40-45mm.

Rear bumper card ONLY will need slight modification on those with PFL rear bumpers. They updated the card to the new FL bumper and old molds for the PFL are not available. The FL rear bumpers have a slightly larger ridge than the PFL. This production kit is a direct fit for FL C63 Sedan. FL C63 Coupe in prototype stage will be a direct fit as well.

Dear David,

I need to update you once again with some details about the fender flares.
Since I also wanted to know and understand more details about this product for my sales activities,
I tried to gather more information from the technicians that manufacture the flares and already had installed some of them.
From this I found out that there were some misunderstandings on my side so far and I have to apologize for any mismatch.

1) The flares will add 35mm on each side, not 40mm or even 45mm

2) The current version of the flares will fit the W204 C63 model year 2012 (facelift) limousine (sedan) and the station wagon,
both without modification of the bumper card. (Facelift in Germany was 03/2011).

3) All other models before facelift need some modification on the bumper card since the crimp in the bumper is at a different height.
For this the bumper card in general is manufactured a bit more thick so the painter may easily adapt a crimp to it that would fit the rear bumpers crimp at before facelift models.

4) We still have no fender flares for the W204 coupe version.
We will get a C63 W204 coupe to our garage on November 28. At this vehicle we will develop a coupe version of the fender flares.
Our estimate for the availability of the coupe version is rather February 2016.
So it would not make sense to already order coupe version with the current first order.

5) It is recommended to also order the Black Series liners since they will fit perfectly to the flares.

6) There are no fender flares available for C63 W205 model

I hope this information now will complete your view on the product.

Kind Regards

Juergen Baumann

I know! This topic has been beaten to a dead horse with very unsuccessful results in the past. Hopefully you can change your mind once the production version of the coupe fenders are ready!

Ok, some of you have asking questions on the real gains from this kit. There was some miscommunication and I've created a crude diagram for visual reference.

As stated the HMS fenders are 35mm in width but this is not the total gain from OE fenders. When you run aggressive wheels/tires on OE fenders, you will always hit the OE fender/edge. When you install these flares, you cut away parts of the OE fender/edge and this will ultimately give you extra clearance + 35mm additional. Hope this clears up the confusion!

I'm going to inquire my local body shops to see how much this will be. If more than $5k I'm out...would much rather prefer invest in LTH instead

If your being quoted $5K, your going for a ride.

You can see how good the fitment and quality is on the first page of the thread. It's held on by painters tape and it hugs the chassis very well.

Now the rest of the work needed is measuring and taking a cutting wheel and cutting off the OE fender lip/flare. All 8 pieces of the flare are paint matched and glued onto the body. Now molding it on will take more work because of adding material (bondo/body filler) for a seamless look and carefully blending to match your paint.

But I would personally just "bolt" them on. In case for repair, or an accident. Plus molding has the potential of cracking which means you have to repair that entire panel from scratch.

Still waiting on my body shop to get back to me.

IMO I think it'll look weird if the fenders aren't designed to be bolted like the Liberty Walk kits. The fender just isn't wide enough to pull off that look.

That being said, I am looking to have them molded. Only problem is I have diamond white...which is really hard to match!!

Hey,

So I got a response from HMS and they told me that all of their in-house installs of these fenders are bolted on. They didn't advise anything to me about molding but since they are more of a "race shop" and molding is more of a "show car" aesthetic. Once installed properly, you cannot tell unless you are like 2 inches away from the fender and staring.

There are also 2 bolts that connect the main flare/card and they run underneath the chassis, and that portion bolts onto the body.

Also, I was just poking around local body shops and tuning shops about the total cost of the install. The first and only actual quotation I got right away was from fizzautosports in Chicago. http://www.fizzautosports.com/shop/

They mainly deal with VIP and show cars. But they offer installs and paint/body work. They are also a Liberty Walk authorized dealer.

I spoke to the owner and explained how I needed them installed, showed him the video and tried to be as descriptive as possible, step by step. They gave me a rough estimate of $1700 USD painted, and installed. Very reasonable!

You can possibly use that quote as a baseline and I can send you detailed (Translated from German > English) instructions from HMS to get you a more realistic quote and making sure the body shop knows all the steps prior to installation. I just want you to get the best install without getting ripped off.

From the pics of the pieces I don't see where you would bolt these on the fender unless I'm blind and can't see.

They supply a few M5 bolts, you bolt Flare #1 to #2.

In this photo you can see where there is a hole underneath the side skirt card, that portion would bolt to the body.
