I just wanted to hear everyone's opinion on this. I currently own a 2008 c63. Would you guys give up your c63 for a 996tt?? I'm looking bc I want a true 2 door sports car that's manual. Also I've always dreamed of owning a porsche as a kid so that's why I started looking. And owning both would be nice but having so many cars living in downtown Chicago is hard.

Only if the p-car is stock, never been modified, and has some kind of warranty.

I traded my 09 c63 for a BEAST of a 996tt (750whp) and got rid of it in two months. It was crazy, but the fun only lasted about a week. It is a seriously expensive car to maintain. Don't get me wrong, the car was a blast and heads turned everywhere (built motor, full exhaust, big turbos). This whistling from the turbos was almost as impressive as the c63 exhaust.

Thus, I found myself back in a facelift c63. Only car I've had twice.

Out of curiosity, why the 996 and not the 997? Even after my 996 experience I would heavily consider a 997.2. I too find myself longing for a 2 door sports car again but I think I'll wait until I can find my way into an AMG GT

996 > 997 bc of affordability. I don't want to put too much $$$ into a car at the moment seeing that were going for a second baby. Lol

I am really concerned with the maintenance with a 996 but I guess that comes with the territory of owning a car like that. I figure benzs aren't so cheap in the maintenance dept either so that's relative to me.

There's something about owning a porsche that excites me. It sounds selfish bc a c63 is such a bad *** car but no one really dreams as a kid of owning a c63. I'm just trying to be smart and not let my boyhood dreams overcome me.

I just sold my NA 2-wd 996. Loved the way it drove, performed, sounded. Great car. But, it had 90k mi. and, even though I did the clutch and IMSB (not a problem on the TT), I just knew other things could/would start breaking.

That is why I started the "high mileage" thread. Even though my C63 only has 11k mi., I intend to keep it for the long haul and am still shaking off the paranoia from the 996.

Again, the TT motor is really robust and not prone to the abnormal problems experienced by the NA 3.6 motor.

Go to rennlist.com forums and ask around. The 996 forum has a ton of great guys with TONS of experience with all models of 996.

Anyone who's owned both or knows both cars very well? Can anyone comment on the performance differences?

My last car before this was a worked 996TT. Had all the goodies, aerokit, lots of boost and big intercoolers etc. Loved that car, and man does the 4WD grip when those turbos hit. Right now my C63 is just about as fast in a straight line as that 996TT was, but nowhere near as fast or confident in the turns.

I also wanted that car I had posters of as a kid. I definitely would advise anyone with the means to own one once.

Two totally different driving experiences, it really depends on what you want the car for. The Porsche is definitely going to attract more attention, both good and bad. Maintenance about the same as the AMG - engines are bulletproof.

The Porsche is wide and low, and expensive to fix. The C63 is more practical as a day-to-day car.

I want a car that's a head turner with the performance. Sure the c63 is beautiful but a lot of people still see it as a normal c class with mods. Whereas the porsche in itself carries a sporting heritage.

This is really a weekend car. No track, no crazy mods. I don't prep my car for photoshoots. I just want a car over the weekend that gets some heads turning. But also, in case if some punk kid in a camero his daddy bought him wants to play, I'd be able to teach him a lesson or two.

Porsches don't really turn heads. Get an older Viper, classic car, etc.

Sorry, while I do agree vipers and such turn heads, saying porsches don't is just not correct. Someone followed me all the way to my house before to ask me "what is it?" and "can I have a ride?" when I had my 996. Granted, it was done up, but I've never had anyone follow me in any other car before.

I'm getting comfortable visualizing the C63 as a DD. I could never get entirely comfortable with that idea in the 996. After a period of nothing breaking, I would start to imagine noises.

My prior car was a Nissan GTR. If you want a performance car that turns heads, then I would strongly suggest you give the GTR a thought. Absolutely amazing performance, and due to the rarity I got TONS of attention everywhere I went.

I would go for a 997.1 gt3 before they get up in value again! I don't know what you guys have with turbos coming from a C63!!! lol!
Or if you really want a 996 go with the GT3
GT P cars are really dedicated track cars. TT are more of a daily driver that you can track. A bit like the C63. All around car.

I had a 2004 996 TT with the x50 package and only about 8000km's. Since the mileage was so low, I'm not sure about the maintenance side of things as I didn't have anything go wrong with the car. I did sell it for the 507 sedan as we had a baby on the way and also have a viper, so I didn't need two cars that didn't see much time outside of the garage.
As others have stated though, they are entirely different cars. The Porsche is a lot different to drive especially in the corners or out on the track. It does turn more heads but where I'm located, there are a lot of them so at the same time they don't stand out too much either. A large number of people here use them as daily drivers to work, summer and winter.
It really depends on what you want out of the car and which one makes you happier when you're in the car. I only kept the 996 TT for a year as it just didn't give me that feeling, whereas the viper did.

Buy what you like OP, Not sure why guys care if bunch of people who drive the equivalent of a Toyota Prius are looking at them or not lol ...you're basically bringing yourself down to their level when you want a car that screams "look at me look at me!!" ..don't buy a car for everyone else, buy a car for You, it is your money after all.

996tt seems like a great deal for the price/performance ratio. the car will be instantly recognizable for most people but i have heard the interiors leave a lot to be desired. plus if you're one of the many who still enjoy rowing your own full time it has a third pedal. they are awd but i would assume they are about as useful in the snow as the c63 is. overall it seems to me the c63 leans towards being a bit more easy to live with on a daily basis compared to the 996tt, but perhaps those who have actually taken the plunge and purchased one of those beasts can comment further

I had R888's on my 996TT year-round, and it was totally fine in bad weather. Only got it out in snow once or twice, and it wasn't bad really.

Interior is honestly about as good as the FL C63, maybe a bit more leather.

Body is looking a bit dated these days, but that can be fixed. As a platform it's tough to find more bang for your buck.

So that is an interesting question. Real car nuts hate to choose and tend to accumulate cars rather than have a this or that conundrum to deal with. My car adventure started with an e92 M3 than I partnered with a friend on a Porsche spec boxster race car. Spending time doing driving events with that car transformed the way I look at performance cars. I ended up selling the M3 and getting a Porsche Cayman R, my all time favorite car for a fun Sunday drive. I felt it needed more power so I had the motor built out to 4.2L. Now it is a bit of a beast. Then I realized I needed a daily driver again so I got the C63 507. I also have a c63 Black series which is also too hairy for daily drives but I enjoy the stink of driving that car too. I have driven a 996TT both on the street and track. I would describe it as some where closer to the c63 507 than any of the other cars. It is fast, smooth, heavy for a Porsche but bit more agile than the c63. I would not call it a sports car, more of a GT. You can't go wrong with either choice.

The interior of the 996 sucks and the ride is stiff. C63 interior also sucks, but it would be an easier car to use daily in my opinion.

Weekend car = 996
Daily Driver = C63

Before my C63 I had a 996TT with the EVOMS 660 Kit. The power it had was awesome...but so was the tune, lol. I would say the 660 kit was more than enough power, any more and I'd be worried about breaking stuff. With that said, I never once had an issue with anything on that car. I know the previous owner too, it was solid for him as well. The engine/block is a great platform. I'd be worried about other things as the 996 is going on 10+ yrs old now. Overall it's a great car and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one that's been maintained even with mods, done right, lol.

As for turning heads...mine was grey, dropped with bronze HRE's, aero pack, tint, etc and I really didn't get any looks what so ever (could just be the area). This is however coming off of a black R8 V10 with black HRE's and an Akrapovic exhaust...you want to turn heads...get that, lol.

The 996s were really behind the times in the electronics and interior comforts department. My 996 C4S was the worst $100k car I ever owned, when it came to equipment and interior refinement.

The TTs were not affected by the IMS issue, they are fairly reliable and well put together. Wide body always turns heads and is a timeless look.
