Upgraded axles - anyone have a spare set?
I shattered my left rear axle on Friday night at Atco, right behind the left wheel bearing. Very strange, no wheel hop or anything - just doing a burnout and BANG. No other damage, but now I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and upgrade them given how I drive this thing.
Checked with the DriveShaft Shop, and the build lead time is 4+ weeks which is just stupid. How they can be so busy that it takes that long is beyond me. Can't wait as I have trackdays in April already planned.
Does anyone else know of another manufacturer of upgraded axles? Does anyone have a spare set hanging around that they can part with? I'm at a total loss, and my shop is about to just stick an OE unit back in there unless we can find another solution.
I have a used oem set in the basement. Weird yours broke, only heard of one other guy breaking his, but he had a aftermarket torque converter with increased stall.

Thanks Merc. I have access to an OE axle, but I was looking for the upgraded ones if anyone happened to have a set lying around either extra or not yet installed or something.
Yeah it was strange. I blame the brand new burnout box they installed at Atco over the winter. I guess it was sticky.

Jim, give the guys at Bergen Imports a call. They might be able to help you source an axel. That was the shop that Petroc63 used whenever he had track issues with his old c63.
And that's what a shattered axle looks like. In case anyone was wondering. Had to put a stock one back in... fingers crossed...
(BTW your car looks SICK Hagi - saw it today at Harry's)
oh wow. dont use LC with new one. what type tire you running at the strip?
tnx. i try my best to have it well maintained so when i drive it its there for me. Harrys great his our east coast AMG doctor.
Did u see the bars one dont fit. he sid his going to try modify it to fit so will see monday when i pick it up.
I order new axles at Driveshaft Shop last week. Mine too have received a lot of abuse and will not wait for them to break and miss an event or have an accident.

I haven't run LC for probably over a year bud. Using my old PSS's at about 25psi. Launch in M with TC on Sport - powerbrake right when the second yellow comes on, then GO. I can rip off 1.7 60's with them, but clearly something's going to give. Wait till you see Atco now, the new burnout box is STICKY.
Yeah Harry is the best. I wouldn't trust my car to anyone else.
I see the bars - will be interesting to see what he does. Can't bend them because of the mounting points, so I guess he'll probably put spacers in there. You only need about 1/2" to clear, should turn out ok.
BLKROKT -- So you didn’t even have DRs on at the time? I would think the PSS’s would have had enough slip and prevented this from happening. Do you usually use DRs? Mthis -- I would think launch control would be more forgiving to the drivetrain etc since everything happens in a more controlled fashion, but who knows…
