OEM AMG LSD Picture?

I still don't see how any of this is more efficient than picking up the phone, punching in a few numbers, and giving someone on the other end of the line your VIN asking to see if an LSD is on the build sheet.
Yeah, the methods here will work and could be handy if you believe an aftermarket diff was installed (generally a rare mod) and if it was installed the seller likely knew about it and would have told you.
Let's have a race. You go jack the car up, lift it, whatever, and use any of the above methods and I'll call the dea... Oh, I'm done.
Talk about over complicating things.

Yes, the full active diff cooling with radiator and circulation pump is indeed overkill unless you do endurance races. And the OEM parts alone are around 6,000 - 7,000$. I looked into this and I would have the rear bumper with the grill and space of the radiator, but the crazy cost of the parts has convinced me otherwise. Since I only do track days with max 25 min sessions, I think I should be fine. Have not had issues with the diff, since I installed the finned heatsink.

So I was working on a customers S55 with a Quaife LSD. I always used the "spin" method to determine if a car has an LSD. I spun the wheel and they spun opposite directions. The cover had been resealed and I knew the person that did the install so there is no way he was ripped off. I'm still not sure what the deal with that was.

Thats why visual inspection is imperative!!! You can ask the previous owner and try to do research all you want, but the most definitive answer is to visually inspect the LSD to verify the actually diff you have installed. Thats why, although you guys tried to hose and burry me, a visual inspection is the most definitive way that you can verify exactly what diff you have in the housing. Call me **** or call me a time waster by taking the necessary steps, but putting your eyes on the actual LSD is the only way to truly know what you have inside that rear diff.

Nobody is going to let you take their diff apart as part of a pre-purchase inspection. What world do you live in.

plus, my guess would be that on the S55 the trans was actually either in gear or still in park....that is the only way that the scenario is mechanically possible....now, if it happened to have an automatic locking diff in the rear then they could spin in the opposite direction, but only until the locker "saw" the differing speeds, then it would LOCK internally and the other tire would reverse directions ....but to the best of my knowledge the Wavetrac, the Quaife and all of the other diffs for the C63s are STRICTLY LSDs, not lockers
