The alternator is not charging. Check your voltage regulator, it is easy and cheap replacement.

Might have to just change the voltage regulator. I believe it's not that expensive of a part. GL!

I was just reading that. If the new alternator doesn't alleviate the problem, I guess I'll look there next.

Could happen on any car. So do you just need new pulley and belt?

they're going to replace the alternator again, the belt, the coolant hoses that the belt knocked off when it shredded and all the idler pulleys. then the car is going up for sale

Did they install the belt wrong when they replaced your alternator the first time. It sounds like you replaced the alternator then immediately had another failure due to the belt or puller?

the replacement alternator had a damaged pulley that ate the belt. I could see he when he turned the pulley by hand after we pulled the torn belt out and tried to see what went wrong.

sorry i forgot to post the solution.
it was indeed the alternator. the code their STAR read was a low alternator output, although i don't remember the exact code number.
