So took matters into my own hands and ordered the one off the G wagon and put it on - now looks right!

Adi-Benz 12-08-2016 07:54 PM

They also are available on amazon...looks nice tho.

chrisridebike8 12-08-2016 07:59 PM

Honestly, I hate all the badges on the cars now. "V8 biturbo 4matic space thruster thingamabob look at me"

That being said, yours is very subtle and tasteful and looks good. I just generally let my exhaust do the talking.

Jasonoff 12-08-2016 08:09 PM

Probably because it's just a ****ty C Class...

75 grand and you don't get the stupid emblem - now you get it in like 12 places on an CLA45 AMG for 49 grand.

I actually bought the knock off one first and it looks like **** (they actually represented it as real in a mercedes bag and all - AMG was crooked), got my money back and bought a real one.

It has 2 small holes to screw it on but would require taking out the grill to drill the holes, so I just used some 3M emblem tape to hold it (it is L shaped). Part number is 4638170200 and I ordered it from ECS.

Rob

TheInfamousDrew 12-09-2016 09:03 AM

Nice find!
I'm not too big on grill badges. I removed the one on my M4.
But that looks pretty good.

I typically remove what I see as unneeded badges. I've removed my fender "6.3 ///AMG" badges already.

I am confused, are you saying the CLA is supposed to be one class up?

Hierarchy from Mercedes is:

CLA45 < C43 < C63 < E63 etc

Don't pretend like people don't debadge their c63's :P

Most high end cars in Europe don't come with rear badges at all.

Also roadkillrob is right. CLA is down a class, not up.

BLKROKT 12-09-2016 10:19 AM

I thought that it was obvious that the CLA is above the C?

I stand corrected. Starting prices on base CLAs is about $5k less than the comparable C class.

Adi-Benz 12-09-2016 11:04 AM

Wait you were serious?

Oh.

:O

Jasonoff 12-09-2016 11:13 AM

I don't think has anything to do with base in the class type.

I thought class levels per vehicle type went in alpha order? Maybe it changed?

Same thing with BMW and their Series numbers.

In most of Europe debadgin is an option code from the factory, we order our company cars in Europe all debadged so that no one can be jealous when they got a C180 and someone else got a C220 - obviously a debadged C63 is not easily mistaken for a C180 from the back though!

chrisridebike8 12-09-2016 11:49 AM

Yeah. I debadged my car. I only have the star on the front and back. It just looks cleaner to me. All my cars are like that. I figure that if you know it's a C63, then I don't need to tell you with a badge. If you don't know, then you probably don't care and a badge means nothing. Plus I hate the buildup of dirt and stuff you get around badges. It's much easier to keep things tidy with no badges.

MJames2 12-09-2016 12:59 PM

the w204 is a dated platform the CLA platform is pretty new

just because something has a massive engine in it doesn't mean it's better then a new platform

w204s will become practically worthless within the next 5-7 years because big cities are putting in pretty strict laws about emissions and you'll have an extremely hard time selling them to someone that isn't an Asian

and for 75 grand you're lucky we get what we got honestly

Lol not sure you know what you're talking about bro. My 2013 c63 with medium mileage is worth at a dealer what a NEW CLA45 would cost basically. It is a newer platform but it's also a cheaper platform. Mercedes intentionally made many things cheaper as to keep the CLA within the <$40k MSRP. Read the reviews, they mostly talk about how cheap the ride and suspension feels for a Mercedes. CLA is definitely a lower line of car than the C class homie, not really an arguement there.

yeah but your 2013 c63 lost 50-60% of it's value in 3 years, probably a lot more then what a cla45 would lose in the same time period

plus a cla comes with 60 less HP then a w204 c63 with half the cylinders

2013 c63s aren't worth 55k+ ...infact if you go on CL San diego they are going for mid 40's then in 2017 they will drop to low 40s ..late 2017 you'll see 2013 c63s going for high 30's

2012 c63s in your area are going for low 30's already

like i said we're lucky we got what we have for 75k-ish

tpliquid 12-09-2016 01:36 PM

i got my 2012 for 48k

Lol I'm not sure what your point is...since when does depreciation equal a lesser level car new. You gotta compare apples to apples homie, new vs new. A new Kia optima is probably now than an sl55, does that mean it's a better car?? Lol. And now expensive cars depreciate faster...an Aventador depreciates faster than a Hurican...still Aventador is their 'higher' car Lol. Lastly if you're going to try to quote stats at least quote accurate ones. 2013 c63s still go for low to high 40s in Good condition and mileage man!

Ok..... I just spoke to my supplier, and he can make this one. Only $199.99 but we need 1000 orders. I think it's hot. No mistaking it for a C250 anymore.

No clue. Might need some compounding and polishing but if your car was well kept (and yours seems to be) it shouldn't be bad. Also, 3M adhesive remover wheel. Best thing ever for removing that old tape.

Thanks for the info. I have a 3M adhesive remover wheel. Car is in great shape so should be good. May tackle it this weekend.

Been wanting to do it but worried about sticking the emblems back on properly after debadging if I didn't like it but seeing your car the side profile looks super clean.

TheInfamousDrew 12-10-2016 05:49 AM

I didn't have the numbers faded in there however, I did have some built up funk around them.

As Chris said, I used my DA and some Meguiar's Ultimate Polish. Cleaned the area right up.

Trust me. It ain't.
Had one for 15 months.
Yes, for its size it is quick and still the most powerfull 4 cyl 2L production engine in the world.
It is well suited to tracks like the one here on Vancouver Island and handles well. It is also modestly fuel efficient.
That said, it is a rougher ride than our cars. It is very noisy on the highway. At full lock steering angles the front tires slip at temps below 15C. Going up and over shallow curbs e.g. going into the driveway with any significant steering angle input there is a very disturbing mechanical series of bangs. My service manager took a few out when I mentioned it to him and he was surprised. They all seem to do it.
In the end I decided it was a Japanese boy racer built by Germans. For someone not familiar with the brand it probably is cool. For the Asia university students in Vancouver it works as a chic magnet particularly when it shifts in S mode (That Blat out the pipe is really something) and they will like it.
For a long time Benz guy. Not a real Benz.
I traded it pretty much even for my 2013 C63 and could not be happier.

Ah! Really? Remember its base sibling is the CLA 250 or what Europe calls the A class. An A class ain't on par with a C and for sure not an E.
In any case having had one for over a year, as I said earlier, it ain't a real Benz.

That's funny because I was told by someone at my local dealership the class levels are alphanumeric in luxury, CLA > C

They obviously didn't know what they're talking about. Below comment backed up by car and driver.

I'll be honest I thought this was general knowledge..., that's why I didn't expect these answers lol.

The CLA is now the 'entry level' mercedes car. As mentioned earlier their base price is the lowest ever. In terms of the AMG, I suppose it has its own shine, but it won't shift the class .
