renntech vs oetuning mini review dyno monday
ended up going with oetuning because I needed to get my car stock tuned to pass inspection but didn't have the renntech handheld because old owner kept it.
renntech wanted 2300 or 2500 for the handheld and confirmed the car was tuned in house and indeed had a performance tune on it.i couldn't justify to re spend that money on top as I paid premium for my car with the tune installed from the get go.
my car would not pass 02 monitors etc from the tune.
I ended up jumping on the oetune for 700 and got my car back to stock and passed all readiness monitors.
fast forward now with 93oct file loaded and adapted.the car feels almost the same but just a little more grunt from 2k to 3.5k and just a tad more up top end.the best way to explain it is like going from stock air boxes to row and dry filters.
I think the renntech had a lite more pop and burbles but the OE feels a little stronger.the big difference is throttle input.to me renntech was to aggressive and not fun to drive around taking off slowly in first.it was over kill and to agressive and over kill for me.
OE feels like OEM throttle and way better daily driving for me but some people might like the sharper throttle response.
I have an appointment on Monday to see what she puts down.

no...what i got from it was
car had a renntech tune which didn't let him pass smog.
he purchased a OE Tuning handheld which contained a factory tune
he flashed the factory tune then smogged with flying colors
then flashed to the OE Tuning 93 octane map and let it fly
dyno figures were OE Tuning. from what i recall my OE Tuning hand held came with 91 octane, 93 octane, 100 octane, valet, and stock maps.

Got it, thx. Too bad, IMO the more interesting results would have been RENNtech (dyno?) tune vs OE tune. Hard to control all the variables but I'm predicting +12whp on 93 octane.
