Losing power with weistec plugs NA sounds familiar...

Why does it drop at 5800rpm suddenly and then remain constant to redline?

Was this being tuned on the dyno to accommodate the headwork, or was it simply being tested with the previous tune?

I wonder if it wants more fuel as it comes on cam at the top end with the additional flow up top

We did lose power. The first sheet shows the current run on top and the previous run below before I had the plugs and pnp done.

Tested with previous tune. That was another theory we had. Indie shop is saying he's seen this before and it might be pulling timing from leaning out. Tuner will be checking the AFRs tomorrow and see about a retune if needed.

Fingers crossed man ^

It might be a velocity sweet spot (where airspeed and flow from the additional work just works beautifully well and requires more tuning). It looks as though it might have been making more consistent torque (having to guess a bit with the missing lines) but then fell flat up top.

I'm hoping that it's going to show you a very lean condition tomorrow, so you can blob in more fuel and y'know what...maybe a degree or two more timing if the motor can handle it.

Good luck bud - keep us posted.

I totally agree your car needs to be retuned based on the work you have done

If there is something abnormal the ECU will pull timing straight away to save engine

I would get a set of N/A plugs and do back to back testing with Weistec plugs and N/A plugs and get tuner to retune there and then

You will gain i have no doubt

Ken @evotech does his tuning on the road. He does the pulls on the highway. I would love to figure out the culprit but I don't have the time or resources to do so. I've given the instructions to replace the plugs asap and retune if needed.

This will help explain a little. The tuner is friends with my indie shop. So he comes down from his shop takes the car out onto the highway tunes it and parks it back at the indie shop. The dyno I'm using is at another shop and they are usually booked. So we are dealing with three different parties if that explains my concern for getting all the things to happen at the same place and time.

Edit: keep in mind the car is rolling around with unfinished body work too laugh out loud. Primered flares no bumper or sideskirts and oem wheels with old tires. All that stuff is sitting at the body shop. This has been a very long venture and I am just eager to finish it and be back in my car. It felt amazing driving it today after 7 months.

Understand

Se how you go
But let me ask you 1 more thing after you bolted these heads up did you go straight to the dyno? or did you drive it around first? how many runs did you do on the dyno? As you didnt tune for it it might just be a case of letting the ECU learn when i swap between ecus on my car it takes a while for the ECUs to learn like maybe 6-8 freeway pulls

I went straight to the dyno. The shop may have put some miles on to make sure everything was good. We did 3 pulls. The third pull showed 466whp. That is also a good point for the ecu to learn.

You need a retune for sure, I'm sure you will find the gremlin. I know how you feel about projects that take a long time. Hoping you find a solution soon.

I would run OEM plugs before doing anything else.i was told by oetuning to not run colder plugs.

and the ECU will target it's dialed in air fuel ratio and a leaned out top end will make more power at the cost of running hot.

what is your exhaust setup like? I'm sure it's posted somewhere so if someone can post a link that would be great.

I want to thank you for posting and doing all this work and letting us know how things come out.but this whole time in the back of my mind I knew there would of been a power drop down low but should of picked up power top end.

I would run OEM plugs and redyno

I had a tuner shop build up a n/a clk55 motor: pte cams, ported polished heads, headers, s/c, smaller pulley, tune....... it did not make good power. it seemed the p/p heads was not suited for the canned tune...... you will need someone who will spend some time to get this tuned properly for your mods. It will need to be someone knowledgable. There are a lot of tuners in this business who cannot deal with a custom setup.... so choose wisely.

I will try to borrow the car from the tuner and see if the oem plugs changed anything if a spot is open on the dyno.

I have MBH Headers midpipe xpipe and resonator delete.

The tune was already catered to the car with the exhaust. We will check afrs and get a custom retune.

FYI I gained 40rwhp with ported m156 heads. And mind you, mine do not look as good as yours. I didn't adjust the tune either.

hmmm, interesting that yours produced the goods out of the box.

Are these cars tuned on a target AFR or are they fixed injector on/off times in a big load vs rpm table?

Only thing I can think of is that maybe the load reached at high rpm just doesn't have sufficient fuelling data for the engine to churn out the power. ie, RNS has a tune that can support the additional airflow/power from future mods.

Good luck Magic Carpet - fingers crossed buddy.

I'm here at the dyno now. I'll see if they can siphon the fuel out.
