OBD II Scanners
Question: I just rented an Innova 3100 OBD 2 scanner from Autozone and the instructions say to only turn the key to "on" or position two and not crank over the engine. How can the monitor possibly determine emission readiness test features like Catalytic Converter, O2 Sensor, Evap, etc. when the engine is not running? How does it receive the data without exhaust gas flowing and engine cycles going? Are all scanners like this?
The same can be said for checking codes, it says to keep the key in position two but not cranked over.

I think that you need to ask more questions of the supplier regarding the capability of the tool-----to read the faults all you need is to power up the system not start the car. However for your requirements the car has to be running, but will the tool do what you want---what does the manual index indicate??
