But how much is it in inflation-adjusted 2005 Chinese Yuan?

That's a very good question, I'm very glad you asked. Chinese inflation over the 12yr period has been 37.29%, so 1000 yuan in May 2005 is worth appx 1373 yuan today. If the current USD/Yuan exchange rate is 1/6.90, then the answer is 12564.83 2005 Yuan.

Hey, what's all the excitement about me mentioning the conversion rate? The reason I did so is because the OP is talking about a CANADIAN warranty purchase, but Olson's $2500 warranty cost, provided for comparison, was for a warranty in THE U.S., not Canada. Most things, including extended or aftermarket warranties, cost 30 to 35% more in canada than in the U.S. (Right today, the exchange rate is $1 U.S. = $1.37 Canadian). You can't compare Canadian and U,S. costs without factoring in the difference.

Actually, the exchange rate works out the same when it is $1US to $1.20.
At that rate, if you compare product prices for same brand/stores from one side to the other, they are very similar once exchange is factored in. Right now, at this rate, we are having a train run up our backside. But our government is keeping our dollar low for the sake of trade.

Countdown to DJT calling us currency manipulators in 3,2,1.......

I also read that right now Germans are pricing our (Canada) cars cheaper even after considering the exchange rate. Is this true?

It always used to be that Canadians could bring their CAD across the border, convert to benjamins, and drive a car home for cheaper. Is it the other way around now? Seems impossible

Just did a quick sanity check and this seems to have some basis in reality. MSRP of new c63 is either 75000 CAD or 66000 USD. What a time!

Notaballer: You are correct in your observation. In Canada, a Mercedes is an absolute bargain right now versus in The U.S. Not so much for BMW, and not so much for Alfa Romeo though.

As for "domestics", the Fords, GMs, and Chrysler products are incredibly costly in Canada versus The U.S. In Canada, most Mustang GTs advertised by dealers are in the $50s, which is why I snapped up that stripper leftover 2016 last September for $33.4k, during the Ford Employee Pricing sale.

It's a complex multinational world these days.

Cars in canada are dirt cheap esp these cars. Its a great time to buy a car. I bought my c63 which also came from canada a year ago it was a 13 and you stlll cant get a 13 for the price I paid.

In Canada, a C63 is cheaper than an M3/M4. I think it is opposite in the states.

It's probably because the CAD dollar is so weak vs the US right now so it seems cheaper when calculating relative to across the border prices.

It's not actually like MB dealers are selling these cars for less every year. These cars probably retail for the same or a bit higher every year , and us civilians make the same wage every month, it's just that our dollar is getting pooped on so it seems cheaper VS usa prices.
