Squeaks and creaks? Too-stiff suspension? COULD be your tire pressure
When I bought my 2012 C63 a month and a half ago, my early impressions included both stiff suspension and some squeaks or creaks. I chalked that up to "This is a sport coupe". But I think I was wrong.
Just before starting the test drive in the car as part of the buying process, my salesperson noted that the dash was displaying a message about low tire pressure, so he and the sales manager took the car over to an air source, and topped up the trie psi to the psi values shown on the driver's door label: 46 pis front and 49 psi rear - except they put all 4 tires at 49 psi!
Since then, others on this forum have educated me on the fact that there were TWO errors in that:
1. They did 49F / 49R instead of 46F / 49R. This was an obvious error.
2. On many (most? Nearly all?) non-Mercedes cars, the recommended tire psi values on the driver's door are the ONLY - and correct - ones. However, on a Mercedes C63, apparently those are NOT the correct values. Those are the maximum values to be used with a maximum payload of passengers and cargo on board. The correct values for a partial payload are shown on the inside surface of the gas filler door. (I have no idea why MB does this 2-places confusing tire psi stuff, but maybe someone else on the forum does know). Those values are lower. See your tag on the inside of your fuel filler door.
After I learned this, I adjusted my nitrogen-filled tires down to 43 psi front and back.
And after a few weeks of operation with this new tire psi setting, I can report that, at least on MY C63:
- The suspension no longer seems too stiff. It's about right actually, with anywhere from me alone in the car, to me, my wife, and my adult son in the car
- The squeaks and creaks no longer seem to occur (presumably because, among other things, there is now less excitation of the glass roof)
Both of these beneficial changes make perfect sense of course, and I'm sure that some forum members will reply to this posting with a "Duh, of course, Dummy".
But here's why that response might not be so appropriate:
1. The use of two different tire psi guide labels on the same car in 2 different places is NOT a great idea, especially when most owners, and most car technicians, are used to seeing the data on the driver's side door label ONLY
2. YOU as an alert owner might know that both labels are on the car, and also know whether or not you need the "maximum" psi which is appropriate only for high speed operation and/or high payloads. But the technician, or possibly "apprentice trainee" who gets assigned the "grunt" work part of the service when your car is in for an inspection and service, might not know about the 2 labels, and certainly does not know your typical speed or payload. And in this liability-driven world, an MB staff member is likely told that when in doubt, go high on tire psi, since that MAY result in discomfort or more rapid tread wear for the owner, but a too LOW tire pressure could cause a tire failure and subsequent accident.
So, you could conceivably bring your car in for a service, and without even being told, have the car's tire psi adjusted upward.
So, if your C63 has begun to squeak or creak, or the suspension seems harder, check your tire psi. You MIGHT be surprised at what you find.
If this seems far fetched to you, remember, my C63 was actually proactively delivered with its tire pressure set too high by the dealership.

Other cool facts:
-The fuel door is on the passenger side.
-The rear tires are bigger than the fronts.
-There are 4 exhaust tips.
-The car has race start.
Seriously, you don't need to start a new thread every time you take a dump. I'm glad you had a good poop but the car has been out since 2008. Please stop cluttering the forums with worthless content.

No but in all honesty, dude just let him be. Clearly you aren't happy with his content. Just don't click into them if they frustrate you so much. It's not worth it for your blood pressure to rise from something so insignificant. It's genuinely not that big of a deal... And if it is, I'll have my wife prescribe you some xannys to take that edge off lol. And please don't take this post as my sticking up for JimG... Do I agree with all the threads he's started? No, not at all. Do I think most of them are pointless? Of course! But what I DO enjoy, is his passion and energy to continuously post. Not every thread will be a winner lol. But, there will be times where valuable conversation will come up. Keep doing what you do Jim

I see the JimG gaggle of little newbie groupies have appeared. It's past your bedtime kiddies, go away and let the adults handle this.

Uh oh looks like the old folks have come to save the forums from utter disarray by clinging onto a notion that is no longer relevant. Don't you have a diner to be at to complain about how things were different in your day? Time to let go and let those newbies have their way and unfortunately destroy what you've come know and love over the past decade. Bye Felicia lolol

Like cmon... Just let this man live and move on with your life. You don't like the stuff he posts? Don't click on it. You KNOW you're gonna get triggered by the ridiculousness of some of the topics he talks about. Why do that to yourself? Are you a masochist? Why put yourself through the agony?

Since the oil was changed by the MB dealership just before it sold me the car, I have not yet needed to even think about an oil change. But, when it is time, you bet I will rely on the MB recommendation, since I figure the manufacturer knows what it designed the car to use, and I want to preserve that extended warranty too.

My guy, this really shouldn't be bothering you as much as it is. You're last response sounds so paranoid! When you infect a new community? Dude, he's just some guy on the internet blabbing about random crap that LITERALLY has no bearing on my, or anyone else's for that matter, life. Like I said, do I like the stuff he posts? No, not really... I think most of it is complete nonsense. But I'm a f****ng adult and petty stuff like what people do on the internet, doesn't bother me. Once you realize that there are other people that roam this earth JUST like you, with lives JUST as complex as yours, the easier it'll be comprehend that lol.

This is what he does for a living.
He wakes up in the morning, puts his forum police outfit on, sits in front of his PC, and starts posting about how pointless threads are and how he misses the old days.
And now his fanboy club will come to his rescue....

Oh boy... where to start? ))))
OP - Jim, my man! I experienced this same this last week.... after picking car up for svc they it was riding very rough..... I thought it was just my imagination, after the loaner C300... but they filled my tires to 50 all around..... too high. So yes this happened to me to... and yes from a drivers/owernship exp this is what I exp too.
Not sure why all the hater-aid about drivers exp threads..... it's not like this forum is a real serious engine/car builder place...... it's more about the MB life-style.. and a few mods (bolt-ons), and a very few who actually put these on a track.........
Infecting a place??? WTF...... the only infection I see is the 'attempt' to control the uncontrollable. I'm afraid your goals will keep you unhappy, and full of contempt
Learn to let go..... go for a drive maybe...... then come back and report on your mb experience..... rather than try to dog-train them, and set imaginary barriers/boundaries that are well... unenforceable
Don't have a SCANNERS moment dude!
