Idler Pulley and Belt Help

My car had a squeal under hood, it is a 2010 with 54,000 miles. I took it to the stealership because I have a Fidelity Warranty. Dealership said they will replace idler pulley under warranty but the belt is not covered.

Costs breakdown as follows:
Idler and labor $324 (warranty covered)
New belt and labor $500 (warranty does not cover)

My questions do you need to take belt off to replace idler? Lastly, does the belt really need to be replaced at 54,000 miles (non supercharged) C63?

Thanks

has a new serpentine belt for $51.20 and tensioner pulley for $185.60. Looks to me like they are billing you for the whole job at $500.00. If they have it all apart all they should bill you for is the belt. Warranty should pay for the rest.

Yes, belt for sure has to come off. Replacing the belt in on a case by case basis.

If I were you, I'd get the warranty work done at the dealer and get the belt replaced at any other indy shop. $500 is about $350 too expensive.

Seems too expensive. I had weistec pulleys ($400) and a new belt and tensioner done for $800 (including the price of the pulleys)

The belt must come off to replace the idler, at 7 years old its a good idea to replace the belt. For those considering tackling the job themselves I offer a kit at this link that uses all OE components for ~$150. It's good to hear you caught it early, most ppl myself included have had the belt snap without much warning.
