Comand system stuck in boot=loop FIXED!!!

May not work for everyone but worth a try if you find it happening to you....

so about 3days ago out of the blue my system went silent while driving down the freeway. Looked at it and screen was still up but it was restarting. It restarted fine and ran for about 15sec then restarted again.....and again...and again...

checked all of the fiber optic cables as in the past i have seen this issue occur when the MOST loop is broken somewhere in the system but no joy(some people will go to EACH component in the MOST loop to check this but that is just foolish, if you pull the head unit out of the dash you can disconnect the dual fiber optic connector and look into the now empty holes in the back of the head unit. note which hole the light comes from, remove the OTHER fiber cable from the connector and reconnect it into the harness. if you have light coming from the now loose cable then your MOST loop is intact)

....if you flip the head unit over(or just point it towards the sky) you will see the hard drive mounted to the bottom with 3 phillips head screws. with the harness unplugged i removed the hard drive, plugged the unit back in, turned the key to on and problem solved. Now you will notice that Nav is missing from your screen as it is kept in the hard drive. I disconnected the harness, reinstalled the hard drive, plugged the harness back in, system fired right up like it should but Nav was still missing(Oh SH*T moment).....remembered that i had not turned off key, just unplugged harness to reinstall. Turned key to off, removed key, opened driver door, closed driver door, turned key to on and ALL IS RIGHT WITH THE WORLD!!!

....i think that even though there are screws holding it up, the fact that the hard drive basically "hangs" from the bottom of the head unit may have been what caused it to act up as all i did was remove/reinstall...

...hope this helps guys

It is also possible the drive is going to fail in the future and all the moving it around got it working temporarily. If you have some technical skills and are out of warranty, I would highly recommend bit cloning that drive to another one as a backup.
