Its a crap shoot some guys make it to 120k or even 200k without failure and other guys make it to 30k and have the motor implode. You have to figure there have been thousands of heat cycles and that creates metal fatigue which will eventually cause the defective bolt to snap. I hope that the OP is not in the affected rage but the only way to know for 100% sure is to have it inspected. A car if this age is bound to have some hidden issues and it would be well worth it to have a MB dealer take a good look.

Tires wear out at 10k, I pay 2/3rds, as an example, of full price?

I know you really can't go by mileage but the VIN and engine number are thousands after the supposed range, is this good enough to go by or do I look elsewhere?

You SHOULD be ok but like I said before the only way to tell is to have it inspected.. the 100-200 you spend on a MB pre-purchase inspection is well well worth it. As far as looking elsewhere I can honestly say I would not recommend buying a luxury sports car with this many miles. You could have years of trouble free driving but that one time something does go worng ... its going to bite you in the ***. Your only saving grace is you said you have a friend who can work on them.. that might save you . You would be much better off spending 30k and getting one with a lot less miles than buying one like this. Its like having a friend come to you and say he wants to buy the cheapest Ferrari .. you can do it but its probably going to bite you in the end. A c63 is not as extreme as a Ferrari but you get the idea.

The inspection should cover all major systems, motor, transmission, electrical, body frame exc

Thanks for both responses, I'm not in a position to spend another $10K+ unfortunately but completely understand what your saying. I found a MB dealership 15 miles from the dealer that has this car so I will contact them on the PPI and go from there. I've always wanted one of these cars but the initial purchase cost was always the deciding factor, this one seemed to fit in right where I needed to be and the service history seemed like just what you would want on a higher mileage car like this plus a 1 owner. I'll see what the MB dealer has to say ahead of time and go from there. I was really hoping this car would work out, we'll see I guess. The numbers seem to be working out better on my trade(10 month old Honda lease) and the price on the C63(possibly at $18K) so I'll keep working it and see where we end up.

Well my original question was for feedback on this car not if I could or could not afford it but thanks for the input. Feedback has been great so far.......

Hawk ultimately you are the only one who can make the decision if you can afford it or not nobody here means any disrespect. I hope you are able to get into a 63 as it is the most ferocious car I have owned so far. Driving it is the highlight of my day ...

Well now I know better than to post a link to a car, someone else grabbed it while I was in the process, oh well, was a better deal than most here thought even with the mileage.

^ is right. You probably just dodged a headache. I started off like you too, only giving myself a 25k budget. Then I realized that if I slightly upped the ante, it would allow me to a newer model which is much better VALUE.

I'm glad the others either sold or a deal couldn't be made.
