W205 Steering Wheel on my PFL W204 C63

Whats up guys, just wanted to share a couple pics of my new steering wheel.

NOTE: I do not reccomend this mod for anyone not technically inclined / or uncomfortable around electronics. The wheel bolts in no issues, the airbag is controlled by its own computer, the W205 air bag plugs right into the W204.

However the problem are the steering wheel controls. Every button required re-wiring to the steering wheel control module located in the steering wheel itself. No coding is required no additional parts were required aside from the W205 Wheel / Airbag and an additional W204 steering wheel control module.

Its not a simple DIY but I felt the effort was worth it!

Specs on the wheel - Perforated Leather Grips + Red Stitching / 5 MM thicker all around / Agera S Inspired Carbon Weave / Brabus Shift Paddles + Powder coated Gloss Black / Silver Center Ring. / Suede Airbag cover with Silver Stitching.

I purchased this wheel from Revotech, with the assurance everything would would as it should. It did not. It takes a lot of time to get it right (working as it should)

Now that's nice. I love Revotech's Carbon Fiber work. Bar none the best in the biz.

Question -- you swapped your PFL wheel for this right? If so, what chip did you use? The FL or PFL chip? I'm having trouble getting my horn to work with my PFL to FL wheel swap.

Looks absolutely gorgeous!

One question though, I notice you have the red stripe on your mirrors and on the inside on your CF trim on the door. I personally would think that if the stitching on the air bag and the silver ring on top were red too it would match even more. (maybe even had the paddles be done in a red as well would have gave it some POP)

Thanks!

my car is silver so the center ring and stitching ties it all in. Wanted to keep it OEM'esque with the colors.

Curious if going from FL to the W205 would require a complete re-wire.

looks effing great BTW!

Kriston, amazing work, as usual! Glad to see you're still around. Been a while since I've been on the board.

The new wheel is gorgeous. All of the AMG W205 steering wheels look and feel great. Very worthwhile upgrade.

It will still require a re-wire, the button configuration is different on the control module for the steering wheel.

There's no button for head rest adjust. Just blank. I retrofitted these OEM aluminium ones 2 years ago and didnt want to drill into the door to affix a dead switch. Left it black instead.

Some members messaged me about the Facelift Cluster.

Yes it is - Its the full colored cluster from the FL W204. Took some coding to get it up and running. But it was also a very straight forward mod. It plugs right into the PFL harness. You need coding to transfer the service history / mileage over.

Is this the only coding that needs to be done? And I'm assuming via STAR?

Yes it's a version of STAR that was used to code it.

Thats all that needs to be done. For a few months I drove it without it coded. No issues, all other functions work plug and. Play.

Wow, that's awesome. I actually had no clue it was that easy. So when you drove it without coding, what was the deal with the miles?

Did it show the previous cars miles or how was that being recorded?

If all of this info is out there on other threads, lmk and I'm down to go find the into. Just haven't heard much of this mod.

When i was searching for info, I only found a member in Europe who did it. I took a chance on a cluster out of the wrecked C63 I got my PP calipers from. Took a few months to find a local MB enthusiast to code it for me. Eurocharged couldnt do it when i took it to EC Canada.

All other functions work, but your service history and mileage reset to Zero.

Within the steering wheel, there is a steering wheel control module. for the PFL car, I had to obtain a face lift (2012+) W204 control module, then rewire all the buttons on the steering wheel to the correct pins on the control module.

So if you have a 2012+ facelift C63 the new C63 steering wheel is pretty much plug and play as long you use your original control module??? Car looks amazing Kriston

Aight Kriston, I got a question.....
I too have a FL cluster and like you noted it was plug and play but needed coding for the odometer/service history to work.....BUT....I had one more issue. Cruise control didn't work.....did all of the research I could and what I kept finding was people(MB techs) stating that in order for the cruise to work you had to switch out the multifunction switch collar(turn signal and cruise stalk assembly) from the PFL version to the FL version as they are not compatible with one another.....did your cruise work with the old assembly or did you change out the assembly as well when you retro-ed in the FL steering wheel?

To be honest bud I dont use the cruise much, but it does work after coding.

I did not have to change the collar to retrofit the W205 wheel.

W205 steering wheel upgrade

Hi, I just did the same as you. I used a w204 fl column and w205 amg steering wheel. No errors but none of my buttons work. How did you get the buttons to work? I got 2009 w204 c63.
