So after coming home from work on a hot day and starting my car up again in the evening I get a strange squeaky noise coming from the belt area:

That sounds terrible. Probably just an idler pulley (that upper left one), but I wouldn't be running the engine until you have it looked at.

Agreed it does sound terrible.

Should I risk driving it 20km to the dealer?

I wouldn't. Best case is you make it, but who knows what that is or what kind of further damage you'd cause. Medium bad case is that it's just a pulley, it fails, and your serpentine belt whips around and takes out some wiring and other things car overheats etc. Worst case is that it's something bouncing around under your valve covers. Why chance it? Unless you're prepared to start pulling things apart yourself, just get it flat-bedded to the dealer. Why risk it.

Makes sense. I'm just crunched for time. Defintely not prepared to do it myself. I'll get it over to mb.

no other symptoms. Car just had cam adjusters, lifters and phasers all done under warranty. Drives really nice apart from that. Which literally just happened now.

How long ago was that work done? Engine sounds smooth so I would bet on a pulley. But something's not right. If you have a warranty use it.

Started the car this morning, noise still there.

got it to the dealer finally, noise gone....

they are replacing the idler pulleys right as I type this. Pretty good service!
