To say that "Service B" is worthless, is just ignorant. When was the last time you checked your ball joints, steering rack, load-tested the electrical, looked at your serp belt. Exactly. Someone's got to. Do you think they made up the maintenance schedules and service intervals just for fun?

Hey, Blkrokt! I feel "overlooked" now that you have listed NotaBaller, Infinity, and C63fora2wd as candidates for "stupid poster of the year" and did not even MENTION me!! After all the times you insulted or attacked me for my postings, and even after continuing to use a quote from one of my postings in your sig, I merit not even a mention???

whats their shop rate...120 an hour? the downside is that dealerships don't discount you on labor. if checking your bulbs takes 0.25 hour(15 minutes) by the service book estimate but it actually takes 5 minutes. they're charging you for the 0.25 hour.
this is why some mechanics get paid hourly and some get paid per job. whichever benefits them the most they'll cash in on.
what you could do is wait until your local service department mails you coupons for service. usually those do save you quite a bit of change.

I agree with a number of others here.
These cars are expensive to fix but routine maintenance will prevent a lot of issues down the road.
In 11 MB cars I had only one what I would call expensive repair which was on my 1993 W124 E300 with the 3.2 L DOHC engine.
At 285000 km I replaced the timing chain and gears because I just plain wore them out hammering the chain into one side of the sproket and stretching the chains by slamming the go pedal to the floor a lot. It was clear while it was apart that the engine wiring loom was cracked and dried out after nearly 8 yr on the road. About 4 grand back then but that was it.
Never had the head off, never opened the trans or diff nor did I lose a wheel bearing in that car. I also diligently washed it underneath and in the salt road winters of southern Ontario found car washes with underbody washing and it did not become the rust buckets eastern cars are known for.
For sure, make your own decisions but also keep in mind service records are part of the provenence of your car and buyers will baulk if they arae not able to show proper service and you are going to find your car worth less than it should be.

I will be due for B service soon as I'm currently at 8300 miles. I will be taking it to the dealer for many of the reasons already cited by BLKRKT and others. The other reason is that I'm still under CPO warranty and want them to give the car a good go-over.
I will ask them to check the wheel bearings and suspension. A sister car to mine on this forum, a former ADA car, had wheel bearings replaced under warranty... maybe from the stress they took in the drifting modules the C's were used for. I was not able to get service records while it was in service, but I did have a long chat with the technical director at the ADA last year and he walked me through the service these cars received at the time
So, since I have only had one oil change since owing the car, this is a good chance to start developing a relationship with the dealer - a good thing if you're going to be under warranty for a couple more years. One thing i will back them off on is the air filter change...i can see it now, they toss my AFEs and reinstall the factory ones.

I have a great dealer in Nanaimo 2 hr driver from me who is use and I ask for the same tech each time. Sometimes he is not available so I have a back up guy.
But get this. This same dealer is part of a network of a company with VW, AUDI, SUBARU MINI BMW PORSCHE ALFA and FIAT and have a shop I can get to in 25 minutes for my C63 and I won't go near them. Indifferent, arrogant and once they sell you forget it. No chance to get a relationship at all.

If the indy is good and you trust him use him. Just make sure everything on the B service list is documented and teh service book updated to keep the warranty houds at bay altthough you may have shoy that with the changes at least in part.Remember if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. He ain't changing oil and filter on a B

Which B service is it? The "B" is always more expensive. The "B" service at 60k for example calls for plugs to be changed amongst other things. Make sure they are doing all things listed in that specific B service interval.

should be my first B service. Car currently sits at 6600 miles

Then I would think that's excessive. I don't recall mine being that much for my first B service. If the work isn't too complicated and you trust the Indy then I'd go with them
