Scraping/gringing sound when moving
I'm experiencing a scraping / grinding sound on my 2011 facelift c63 and which is accopanied by a minor vibration which can be felt through the steering wheel and in the pedal cluster. This all feels as if you are driving on an uneven dirt road on a very low car or through very deep and frozen snow scraping the bottom of the car. The problem ONLY happens on low speeds and doesn't appear when you rev the engine in neutral or when stopped. This leads me to think that there could be issues with the wet clutch, gearbox, differential, rear axles or something in the wheels. It's definitely NOT an engine related problem and not a brake problem, as the sound and viration doesn't go away when the brake pedal is pressed.
There are no fault codes though Star.
What has been done:
- all wheel bearings were checked manually with the car on the lift
- central support bearing was replaced
- differential fluid was replaced
- the dealer made an adaptation of the clutch packs in the wet clutch
- trasmission fluid was replaced
The problem seems to become worse when the car is fully warmed up. Another problem which occurs alongside with the sound and vibration issue is a minor loss of torque and a time lag when you release the brake pedal and press the accelerator to start moving from a stop. The car seems to think for a monet and only then engages the clutch. At the same time gear changes seem to be smooth as usual.
Several trips to the dealership didn't shed any light on the problem, they are clueless.
My best bet is that the wet clutch needs to be replaced or there is some bearing related problem in the entire driveline (everything after the engine).
I would appreciate any ideas.
