Alex, thank you for that link. I will pass it along to the mechanic. I appreciate you sharing that.

If the replacement M156 motor is not coming from another C63, keep in mind that at the very least you'll have to replace the oil pan and a couple of other things as those are model-specific. FWIW, I'd probably look for a later engine that already has the SLS buckets and possibly the forged internals. If you use the link I posed earlier to locate engines, there's a motor from a 2013 C63 with 3,000 miles that was written off due to a fire (so no mechanical damage)... that's the one I'd be looking at.

Diabolis, you are right on track with all of your points and suggestions. I had already asked the shop (and myself) to look only for engines post-headbolt/lifters et all. And they had mentioned non-C63 engines will need an oil pan swap and other model specific changes. I appreciate your input to coincide what others are saying. The summation of information from you and everyone else contributing has helped put me at ease at how to deal with former track buddy and now AMG paperweight. lol. not lol.

Clark Kent-- really sorry to hear about your situation. Missed this on the C63 board, as I'm not on there as much as I was in the past. Believe me, I understand your thoughts having "represented" AMG in many track events where I was the only Merc. I'm betting you have "sold" an AMG or two with your track activities over the years. It's amazing that you dodged the head bolt issue, while ending up with a different failure. Hang in there, and best of luck in finding a new engine.

Every time I drive other cars then get back into my C63 I have new found respect for it. It hard just to let them go or junk them. They truly hold their own.. .
Don't lose her...

I know this thread is already a few years old, but does anyone know what the outcome was?
Unfortunately I have the exact same issue and have to toss up between trying to get a 2nd hand engine or trying to find parts to get the engine rebuilt.

I bought an engine from a junkyard taken from a rear-ended 2012 C63. My car is running great and I've posted here and YouTube, a few post-Frankenstein videos of me running hard and fast at COTA.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune and I hope that the replacement engine that you have selected works out as good as mine (so far!). The fitment/plugNplay was seemless as far as I know as well as no codes thrown. For me, it was strap the new engine in and take it to the track!!
