Front wheel hub assembly replacement diy?
So my 2012 C63 AMG with just 30k miles has a bad wheel bearing. I'm pretty confident I can replace it myself except I don't know what special tools (if any) or procedures are necessary to do the job properly. I looked for info on this forum as well as Google and didn't come up with much. Has anyone done this job before or know where I can find info like torque specs and the such?

See that big nut at the end of the hub? Take it off with a big wrench. Good luck, it’s probably at 200ftlbs.
Heres a C-class video. Our cars are going to be sort of the same. No grease cap, and you have that big nut instead. |
Thanks, I have seen that video and realized it's not quite the same as my car. Im sure I can just figure everything out as I go. I just want to make sure I have everything I need.

C63 wheel bearing is nothing like the links and videos posted. 4 bolts hold the assembly to the vehicle...thats it. Far simpler than the typical Merc setup, most importantly do not remove the large nut on the from of the hub, just the 4 bolts holding the hub to the spindle.

Hub and bearing is an assembly and then a stub is shoved in the center so the abs can read wheel speed. Stub also structurally supports the bearing. We run studs on the racecar, disregard the studs. |

Just finished up replacing my hub assembly. Was pretty easy! I just can't believe that 4 small bolts hold the hub, rotor and wheel on. Seems like it should be a little beefier :nix:

Thanks for this @FCPEuro and for correcting my bad advice above. Just ordered 2 new hubs and bolts from you guys. Got the old assemblies out pretty easy. One thing I would add is that I had to pop the thrust arm ball joint to get at one of the bolts. Good thing I’m replacing those with the SDW ones anyway. :y

Is this the same process for the rear or do you have to seperate the wheel bearing? Looked at ECS and all their oarts says is it fits left and right which doesnt help for front and rear. Also checked FCP but their hub and wheel bearing assembly says only for the front. Was trying to do the combo if possible to make it easier without a press.
