Help with Random Electrical Issues

Hi all,

My car's been having a slow decay in health, electrical system wise, this year. I have a 09. First, it was the rear shades. While I never use it, I would randomly push the button just for fun. That stopped working but I didn't care much. Then, I noticed the seat lumbar controls stopped working. Once again, not a big issue. The latest problem is that the scroll wheel stopped working. I can click the wheel in all directions and push it, but turning it clockwise or anti-clockwise does not do anything anymore. This actually is mildly annoying, mainly because I can't zoom in and out on the map or switch songs without clicking the wheel.

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone know what may cause this? I've checked the fuses, and I can't seem to find a blown one. Someone mentioned the SAM controller may be bad or the connector may be bad. Let me know if anyone else has experienced something similar.

Thanks.

Common problem, the shafts breaks inside the wheel. You can buy a replacement shafts in ebay, or replace the wheel with the updated version.

Thanks. I'll look into that.

Now, we can add my driver side front window not going up all the way with one click and when I do bring the window all the way up, it'll drop down a little and I'll have to hold the "up" button again to fully close. FML.

Mine did that too, the window needs normalising.

I have had to connect xentry/star and delete the normalisation on one car that wouldn't learn via this procedure.

All of these things are common problems and are signs of an electrical system problem, but other wear and tear.
  1. Rear shade typical is a faulty piece within the motor. There's are some repair threads which talk about a fixing a spacer to the motor shaft. I believe the threads are in other models' sub-forums.
  2. Seat lumbar failures are typically a loom within on of the seats which either gets pinched or the insulation wears through causing a short and resulting blown fuse. Fixing that requires opening up the seat and either rewiring or just repairing the wires to prevent pinching/shorting. Then, of course, replacing the fuse.
  3. For the scroll wheel, like others have mentioned, its the shaft within the knob assembly. get one of the aluminum ones from amazon/ebay. Very simple fix. There's even a youtube video which walks you through the entire thing.
If you're a DIY'er, all are easily done and cost next to nothing.
