Steering wheel airbag - what is this wire?

It somehow came undone, and am wondering now what it is....?

Looks like some sort of ground wire. It probably attaches to the connector also pictured there, under the bunched up wires.

Yeah, it does connect there. (Checked a few reference pics) and yes a ground, but I'm wondering to what. Doesn't look very substantial.

Since the airbag is mounted in plastic, it is just a grown wire from the airbag metal over to the metal spring that contacts the metal in the column so it is properly grounded, I think also the reason there was a recall as the recall is to add another ground to the airbag as some where deploying due to improper grounding.

Ah yes, that must be right. This is a FL leather wheel though from an SL. I've not been able to find any recalls pertaining to this airbag though, but I'll have to double check.

There was no issue with the airbag itself, it was something about insufficient grounding in the column and if the clock spring broke the airbag could go off due to static discharge, nothing to do with the actual airbag itself.
