Picked up my C63 about 2 months ago - 11 P31 w/ 28k - and it has been leaving small drips on the ground after sitting for an extended period of time. It is at an indy shop that specializes in Mercedes-Benz and have been around for a loooong time with a great reputation. They are telling me that the upper pan is leaking - 9 hour job - $1240. Does this sound right? Thanks

I had a lower oil pan leak on mine. It was one of the last jobs the dealer did for me. I don't know how many hours they billed me for. I suspect the upper oil pan requires more labor to get to though. Hope this helps to provide you a data point.
Just be glad that its not the M156 lower crankcase section (aka Bedplate).. Just did one with extended warranty. Even got them to buy the client 2 new intake camshafts. It's a lot more in depth than just an upper oil pan reseal though.
***UPDATE*** Shop just called - leaking form the bedplate . Spoke to the dealer I purchased it from - he is being very cool - going to speak with his tech - they are willing to take care of me with the repair.
At the bottom or top? If the top, that's a major job.
It went from upper oil pan to the bedplate so I am assuming the top; they cleaned the engine yesterday and drove it 15 miles this morning and it was dry. The shop called me because after the first diagnosis they feel that they could have been wrong after doing more research. I purchased the car recently, so I wanted to speak with the dealer I had purchased it from as the shop he uses to check all of his cars before sale, looked at it prior to my purchase. I spoke with the shop manager today, I am going to drop the car there Sunday for them to confirm, but based on the pictures I sent, and his experience with these cars, it is the bedplate. Please note the inspection report below from my shop. Damn, this is a bummer, but the dealer and shop are going to work with me on the repair, hope this is the case - at this point I have no reason to feel it is not the case as they have been proactive since becoming aware of the situation. Will update this thread as the saga moves forward. Wife has taken it surprisingly well -this will end up costing me double... Gotta pay to play...
