Wavetrac LSD ...
Hey guys
Over the last 6 months since i had the wavetrac installed, i have noticed some "clunking" toward the rear of the car when driving, especially when coming off acceleration and the car changes up a gear ... Should this be of concern ?
The diff feels or sounds a little "sloppy" as such ...
There were no shims placed on the upgrade from OEM ....
Should I take it back to the independent and get him to re-examine ?
Many thanks
Matthew

Yes, of course if you notice something funny you should take it back to the indy that did it versus having keyboard warriors give you every wild guess in the book sight unseen.

Does it ever happen on sharp, slow turns ? A limited slip can be noisy if you're not using a fluid with friction modifiers but if that was the case you'd hear it on low speed turns right away. Especially when cold.
Also, did the installer check the lash? Do you know what it was?

helical LSDs do not need friction modifiers. Wavetrac’s site actually says not to use fluid with friction modifiers.

Yes you should have it reinspected. this is the result of an install with no shims or preload adjustment, 18,000km later. edit: to clarify there were no real symptoms until the last 1000km, where the diff started screaming between 70-80kmh and 120-130km/h, followed the next day by a new humming noise and tons of vibration. The wavetrac unit itself was unharmed, somehow the ring and pinion gears were also undamaged

Mine has never clunked from day one, years ago. Also, what fluid are you using? I recommend the better of the two Motul fluids recommended by Wavetrac. Changed it out at 10k miles and consider the new fill a lifetime fluid.
