Camber adjustment

I noted from this forum that the camber of the rear wheels--and the front as well--could not be adjusted unless third party parts are installed to replace the factory ones. Next week I shall ask the authorized dealer to fix the uneven wear of my C63 coupe's rear left tire which has undergone only 5000 miles of city driving without any tracking. So, my question is : Without camber adjustment by tweaking the control arms, thrust arms, etc. how are they going to fix the problem?

Well if it is just one tire that is wearing oddly and the wear is related to the camber being out, then it usually indicates something is bent or damage and would need replaced like a control arm.

It is possible that the toe-in is out, on one side on the rear, causing uneven wear. If you are running summer tires they wear quicker than other types and a lot of people go through a set in 5000 miles of aggressive type driving. If you have no rear locking differential it is also possible one side is slipping a little causing some wear before the nannies kick in. If you alignment tech has good skills he will be able to give some advice from the alignment readings.

Been there done that. The camber of my rear right was way off what caused the inner tire to wear out what eventually left me beside the road. Took the car to the dealer and they didn't know what to do with it so they replaced the camber arm - complete waste of money because nothing was fixed and the issue remained. I ended up ordering a camber kit through eBay and took the parts to the dealer (should have taken to an indie shoo) and asked them to replace the parts. After that the rear camber was adjustable and the issue was resolved. Later I also ordered crash bolts for the front what allowed me to fix the camber on the front axle as well.

M suggestion - order aftermarket camber kit because you'll end up needing one anyway if you want to maximize your tire wear

Oh, and like mentioned above - get a good alignment guy. I've taken my car to at least 4 different places until I went to an indie Porsche shop where they guys knew exactly how to fix the alignment. We ended up making a custom setup for the car completely ignoring the factory specs.

Thank you guys for all your advice and recommendations. I hope the problem could be fixed by the dealer. In any case, I am now better equipped to discuss with the technician. I really loved my C63, so much so that I rarely missed my Porsche 997 Carrera S. Renepllo, I just hope that I could be as persistent as you in dealing with the problem.

Both tires have done only 5000 miles. The rear left is on top.
