A VOA from BITOG for the moly non-believers

Mobil uses moly in many of their oils but I'd say this recent VOA speaks volumes as to their belief in moly as an effective FM and AW additive.

Moly's history is from it's use as an additive in piston fighters in combat where, if they ran out of oil pressure from damage or inverted flight, they could limp back to the airbase, even without grenading the engine. (pun intended)

So maybe the same application is intended here, to prevent engine failure....with far more moly than needed for equivalent performance.

There are p[lenty of quality oils that are formulated with zero moly, or a smaller amount of trinuclear moly. The only moly additive I use was for a batch of JASO wet clutch PWC/MC oil that was formulated without friction modifiers for the wet clutch. I used it in 4-stroke auto engine, so the moly did help out, same thing for a diesel oil like Rotella in a gas car, you can add some moly.

That's because moly sticks to metal which is why it's so great for reducing cold startup wear, especially in cars that dont get driven much. I prefer to mix my own though as all it does after the initial treatment is stick to metal specks floating around creating sludge and maybe even clogging up your filter faster. https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/AICLM2009
