Transmission service - do filter & gasket need replacing too? Or just fluid

Hi Guys,

I searched around quite a bit but havent found a conclusive answer.

When flushing the transmission oil, should the filter & gasket also be replaced? My indy mechanic quoted me $300 (CAD), but turns out that's just for the fluid. Doesnt include the other parts.

My transmission was last flushed about 50000 km ago, but not sure whether the filter/gasket were replaced as well. It was done by the previous owner.

Thanks in advance

If you don’t know when it was replaced, why not just replace it out of an abundance of caution.

Thanks guys. Will be replacing it all.

I’ve heard that a regular pan drop drain only gets around 30-40% of the fluid. So is not doing a flush okay?

better than nothing but obviously replacing all or as much fluid as possible is ideal

First, I would find a better mechanic if they can't do a flush. 2nd OEM parts in the US are $350 alone with filter and gasket, 200 if you use non mercedes oil (like Febi) so their price is very cheap, seems to be counting on only 4-5 quarts of oil indicating they will not flush it. Maybe better than nothing, but not a lot better in my book if they only do half the contaminated oil.

You mite have a drain hole in the bell housing which allows you to drain the torque converter as well, I believe 9 litres should be the total fluid replaced? Filter should always get done, gasket and 6 pan bolts as well...
