Best way to check motor mounts
Hi guys,
Watching that video of the guy revving the motor and seeing it rotate nearly 45 degrees in the engine compartment got me thinking... I'll come back in include the video if I can find it.
Question is: how much 'flex' should a motor on healthy mounts have? In other words, how much movement suggests a visual inspection of the mounts makes sense? Mine moves about a quarter inch when I rev it in neutral.
EDIT: Answered my own question and nominating myself for Stoopid Post of the Day. This helped.
Thanks,
-Bones

Lift the car , remove front under panel and try to slide your fingers through the sway bar and also the engine , if your fingers slide through without a problem then they are fine . If they don’t then they are bad . Also another indication for bad motor mounts are a vibration at idle while stopped .

There's a few pics of failed mounts here --> https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...on-mounts.html
