Accurately reading transmission temperature

Just curious what everyone uses to measure trans fluid temps- I am looking to do the trans fluid on the 2013 c63 I just purchased and was wondering if there was a kid of go- to obdII tool that was generally recommended. I had my buddy hook up his torque app with a kiwi PLX obdII module and wasnt sure if it was trustworthy as the trans fluid temp and coolant temp were measuring the exact same value. AM i overthinking this and a simple IR thermometer on the bottom of the pan is simple enough? Any recommendations are appreciated.

What PID settings are you using? Below is what I am using and it "appears" to show a valid temp. I'm fairly new to the TorquePro app so I'm not sure if it's working correctly.

I shoot a laser temp reader straight at the trans and ballpark it around 35 Celsius.

Sweet- Thanks. I picked up an MBII that I know will work- I will compare the reading with this PID and the MBII when I do the job and will see if this is accurate

I haven't figured out how to read oil temp yet.

I seen a few euro guys with the trans temp in the gauge cluster and rpm gauge in digits. Some kind of secret amg menu that can be unlocked. Anyone in the states do this or hear of this?
