Who Will Touch My Cats??

Hello,

I own a 2012 C63 and am looking to remove my secondary cats and res.. however, every muffler shop I have been to so far has denied the job.
I always start by saying I'd like to remove the res for straight pipe and they're willing to do that. Until i mention secondary cats, then they start getting into legal reasons why they cant.

I've been to 3 shops so far with the same answer.

I plan on going straight-pipes for res and h-pipe in place of second cats. (Thoughts? )
Will need parts fabricated.

I'm located in Reno, if anyone knows PM me a plug

Thanks,
j

I bought these from Germany, and am very happy with the quality and price.

Perhaps you put these in yourself, which requires jack stands and one cut with a sawzall, and then try the muffler shops to remove your resonator. Or, once you replace your secondaries with these, you'll be happy with the result and leave the rest alone. IMO, removing the secondary cats is the best of both worlds. Quiet when you want it and loud when you get on it.

Stop calling them secondary cats. They're not cats, they're resonators, so call them that and you'll have no problem

look for hector in the shady part of town. Ask him you want to make your car louder and then point that you want this off. If he says he cant, and giving him $50/$100 doesn't work, look for another hector. Took me the second try to find the hector that would do that for me.

These are for the secondary cats? It’s a pretty decent price

why don't you buy those power pipes or whatever and have your local shop install them. they'll remove your secondaries which serve no purpose as far as emissions checks goes generally speaking.

For what it's worth. Make sure the high flow cats you install are reputable. I've seen horror stories of aftermarket HFC that caused the engine to blow due to exhaust restriction. I use Kooks high flow cats myself.

I just installed the ebay power pipes last week as well. Very good quality.
Expect them three to four weeks to arrive after purchase.

Update to my experience:

I finally found a shop to take me in, based off of a vouch from my buddy with an E63, he had similar exhaust work to what I want done..

I took my car in yesterday morning, tell, and show, the man what I want again, H-pipe in place of secondary cats, Straight pipe resonator in stainless (this was scheduled 2 weeks prior and he had a "file" on me for what I want) he says okay and I give him the keys.

I get a call around 5 hours after leaving my car with him to come into the shop.
I arrive to see my car parked out front, and not in the shop lot. Perfect time for me to inspect (since he already took it off the lift, I was crawling)

I get under the car checking his work only to see that he has installed an X-pipe in place of the resonators. Instead of the H-Pipe I asked for
They Cut the secondary Cats, then WELDS them back in.

I go back into the office to find the guy I left my car with to say WTF.
He tells me his shop cant modify emission systems so that's why he rewelded the cats.
I ask him to switch the x pipe he installed to the H I had requested. He tells me he cant cut it out again because he would have to cut through the 'ball-flange'

Not sure what to do moving forward at this point.
My car currently sounds worse than it did prior to the exhaust work.. As stated by many other threads, the sound is much more smooth and less aggressive.
I am still looking for someone to cut the cats out AGAIN to straight pipe them, to see if that livens it up a little. Not sure if they'll be able to swap out for an H-pipe as well.

Also, does it matter that he put the X-pipe in place of resonators instead of cats? This was done without my permission or knowledge before seeing it done. As i went in expecting the H to be up front, and straights through the back...

Have you tried eurotek tuning in Reno... they look like they can accomplish the task...

xpipe is fine in resonator position. No need to
get mikes power pipe. Just cut out sec cats and weld 2 straight pipe. Done

I installed these ones: gsportbygesi.com/high-performance-catalytic-converters/g-sport-emissions-systems-products/

Even with headers, they took out alot of the snarl and rasp. Below 2k RPM you can have normal conversations and isn't intrusive, but when you open it up, it's still very animal like.

Best of both worlds and the cold starts are monstrous.

I looked at their site, and it’s a bit confusing.. which ones did you get and how many? (I own a 2010 c63, no engine mods)

They have a distributor link when you click the menu top right, or you can try contacting them.

I had to go through a distributor to get mine.
