Paddle shifters in S+ mode
I've noticed when driving in 'automatic' modes that when the paddle shifters are used it selects a gear and appears to prevent the car from shifting to a higher gear than selected. I'm curious if anyone could explain exactly what's going on and the purpose of this.
The reason I ask is that for roll racing I have the issue of the car not staying in 2nd or 3rd gear long enough before the race starts, making it severely lag having to downshift before it gets going. I would prefer automatic mode because the car shifts at the perfect RPMs versus me always short shifting and losing a lot of that momentum from the extra torque it has at the low end. If the car will shift past the locked gear when reaching like 7K+ rpm, then I believe this is the solution to that problem. I just don't really want to test and find out if the car will shift past that gear set to be locked when in automatic mode.

Try this in S+, use the paddles to put it in the roll gear you want then as you take off pull and hold the + paddle and it should go into D (full automatic).
It shouldn't upshift as you pull the paddle because the engine will be under load accelerating hard and hopefully will upshift at your perfect rpms.

Crap - that is indeed only when in M mode. I stand corrected.

IF you do what Cwagon said, the car will shift up at redline. However, if you put it into 2nd and stand on it and don't shift up, the car will accelerate until the engine hits redline, and then it'll bounce off the rev limiter and make you feel like a fool. I can't tell you how I know that.

While driving hold down on the left paddle. This will downshift the car to the lowest possible gear without redlining. From there let the car do the work and do not touch the paddles until your are finished. As previously stated, the car will shift at redline as you go through the gears. I have found that the car lags when trying to shift manually.

That is what people are saying.
Just put into the gear you want to start your roll in using the paddles in C, S or S+ (but not in Manual mode).
And if say you have it running in 2 it will still shift up when it redlines regardless.

Now what is this E position? I don't have it in my 2013 coupe, just the C, S, S+ and M
