Not that anyone was wondering....
But no, I’m not dead. Just been busy trying to stay on track for starting shop operations this spring. The big front doors will be going on the building soon, and major assemblies of the machines can begin.
I am needing to repair a few broken teeth on the back gear for my lathe. Again, just because she’s old, doesn’t mean she’s useless. Ca. 1895
My 63 needs rear tires in a bad way. Managed to get 7,300 miles out of them before the cord started showing. Seems to have worn out the insides long before the outsides. The fronts seem to be wearing perfectly even.
Im not at all complaining that they are worn out. I am aware of what kind of car I own. I am wondering if it is normal to wear out the insides first on the rear with an OE spec alignment.
In other news, I got one of my tractors a pair of new rear tires for its 80th birthday. I’ll be refreshing the paint job this spring when it consistently stays above 50 dungarees Frankenstein. Below that the paint will never cure.
The machine is a (early) 1941 Ford 9N.

I love that you are using a machine that has lasted 120 years to build parts that only last 5 years on our cars!

The repair will probably air on his YouTube channel, “Old Steam Powered Machine Shop” sometime this summer. His shop is a revenue generating business, and probably the only one left still powered by a steam engine.
Id do the repair myself, but I don’t have a mill or a shaper yet.
Dave is a wealth of knowledge that guys like myself could spend days with and never stop learning. There are things he does that I would do differently, and other things that cause me to have epiphanies.
Then again, we come from totally different parts of the industry.
I might even start doing some grinding for him on some of his steam engine projects.
Celsius is referred to on his channel as “Degrees Science.”
I have half a mind to start my own YouTube channel to document these repairs, as well as to record the various shenanigans I invariably find myself mired in.
My tires- is there a detriment (or even an adjustment) to dialing my camber back to a sensible level? I am not tracking my car so much as embarrassing street bikes and pushrod bro’s on the commute to and from work.
Some opinions (be gentle) would be appreciated about my potential shop logo. It needed to make sense to people who didn’t know anything about MB history as well as those who have MB cars.
Im not 100% settled on it, but it’s a good candidate.

My suggestion to you and anyone else that enjoys this car but doesn't really race it on backroads besides the occasional blast, is to get aftermarket rear camber arms to take camber out of the rear. I have f1fabrication arms and have my rear camber set to -.5 degrees of camber. I lost a minute bit of grip on turns but picked up tons of traction in a straight line as well as tire wear.
I dont drive my car that often or enough to give a treadwear review but ill bet id get atleast 20k out of a set of rears now if not more!

My rears have been fine but the fronts wear on the insides. Ive got almost 20,000 km’s on the rears. And around 15,000 km’s (on the front just this year alone)
Nice to see the machines running like a top (or soon to be)

is your car lowered? If not I'd have it realigned as my front wears really well, and you may have some excessive toe in the front end.

I like the name for your workshop The Machinist. Unfortunately I foresee some small problems with the legal bigwigs at MB and AMG if they get to hear about it...

I looked into it. AMG does not have the Affalterbach trademarked. It’s the name of a township in Germany.
If I were to use the same font and nothing but an abbreviation then I’d probably be in hot water.
Is there anyone here that does graphic design? I could use some help potentially designing a single layer logo suitable for engraving.

It's a cool logo, but with your brain working the way it does I'm certain you could come up with something just as cool mate! I'm also willing to bet you have a good friend, or friends that went to art school I say skip the 'used' logo

AvE is great. First time I heard that line on one of his videos, I laughed hard.

I know I want to have the design MB related, and grinding/machining related.
Ive seen some ideas that Go Team has for his outfit and they’re perfect.

I can’t even remember how I stumbled onto his channel, but I’ve never looked back.
One of my favorite videos of his is of the Juicero machine tear down.

I give up trying to reorient these.
It would seem that tonight’s jobs are running very slow as I have 2 machines broke down.
I have lots of time to kill:
