Hey guys I’m new to the forums & this is my first post. I recently purchased my 2008 C63 from Canada & had it imported into the states. The previous owner before had cat deletes, & now I need to get an inspection done for the car before being able to register it. So I was wondering is there anyway to bypass & trick the system into thinking the cats are still there? A buddy of mine said you can use defusers, but my mechanic said it wouldn’t fit? I’m not the best with cars so I sniped some photos from underneath the car when I had it on a lift to post on the forums. I know some people on here have cat deletes and are still able to pass inspection, would really hate to have to buy new cats & install them. So if anyone has any tips or tricks to help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
Go to the sketchy part of town and ask around shops if they'll pass you for some extra cash. Works every time.
No it doesn't. We need to know what state the OP is in.
In NY, for example, cars get hooked up OBDII and it goes straight to the state. No way around it.
If that's the case, your best bet may just be some o2 spacers and get them seated just right to get the car to run through a cycle and have the monitors set to ready that way. If they car is tuned, the monitors may just be disabled, and if that's the case the car has to be retuned so that the monitors aren't disabled.

I mean, “getting the car tuned for it” is also highly illegal and breaks several State and Federal laws as well.
If you insist on running without cats, passing any kind of emissions inspection will result in breaking laws one way or another. Pick your poison, it makes no difference in the end.
I would suggest getting cats welded in. You won’t lose any noticeable horsepower, and people following you will appreciate it. It’s not the end of the world and is just the right thing to do.
I guess bribing local emission officials to knowingly break the law is the same as getting your car tuned.
Get your car tuned and don’t get other’s involved in your BS. You’ll pass emissions but won’t have to bribe anyone to do it.
Getting your car tuned and choosing to drive it on the street is your decision. Choosing to do emissions on it is your decision. Most vendor nowadays list their product as “Not legal for street use” to protect themselves.
So I’d strongly disagree with your statement of “pick your poison it makes no difference in the end”

There are entire industries dedicated to hacking the OBD2 interface and coding what the system needs to see to pass a car.
There are entire industries dedicated to tuning cars so their emission monitors appear to work correctly so the control systems see what they need to see to pass.
How did we go sideways to bribing people to pass inspections and what not haha.
I'm in NY and had to go through something similar with my first c63.
- Scan the car to see what monitors are/aren't set to ready. You're not checking for codes, you're checking the monitors.
- If you do not have a check engine light, and the monitors are not ready, you're probably going to need to retune the car. When you retune make sure you tell the tuner you have to pass NYS inspections so monitors have to be left alone / untouched.
- If you do have a check engine light, scan to make sure its for your cats. Personally, at this point, I'd just put cats in the car and call it good.
If I had to guess, your car is tuned, and the monitors are disabled so you're going to need that new tune. Then, once newly tuned, you're still going to have to either put in cats (which is what I would do) or try to get o2 spaces which just pulls the o2 sensors out of the exhaust a little bit more and try to trick the system that way but this can be difficult. As far as I know there isn't a tuner out there who can program the ECU to pass and trick it that way. I may have seen one person do it in NY but I'm not sure. It's a pain in the a$$... Almost easier and more sensible to just move out of the state haha
Good luck! Im in PA and I have ARH headers with cats, I still had to put in the mini o2 cats to get mine to pass obd2 emissions. If I drove normally my car would be fine. But if I got on it and was in high revs alot on back roads or doing pulls my car would still throw a check engine light.
I was in a similar situation in CA. Had to get monitors to complete. Tried all sorts of spacers with no luck. Ended up using this and worked like a charm.

So my car just recently passed with the vrp pipes installed and just a bung extender on the secondary O2 sensor. Still the car would of failed the visual inspection but I had also taken other cars to the same shop so they cut me some slack. Honestly I think you maybe better off taping a C note to where the cats would be. Gotta pay to play!
