Sanity Check: A/C Compressor 2011 C63 AMG
Hi folks,
Well, my A/C Compressor is going out, had it to two different shops, one independent and the local MB dealer=same diagnosis, a failing compressor. Mercedes came back with an estimate of $3625 to drop the subframe, replace the compressor, refill the system and a 4 wheel alignment afterwards. Is that reasonable?
Thanks!

Thank you for that! I called around and found a reputable independent shop that quoted $1400.00. He was familiar with the job and said exactly you did, that they only had to drop it a bit to get it out. Based on that and the 3/year 36,000 mile warranty they offer, I'm going with them. I have had great dealings with my MB service writer in the past and I hate to decline the work with him, but gosh that price difference is crazy!

OK, I had the car this weekend and did some further testing: the strange thing is the A/C works just fine if I leave the temperature on the lowest setting with fan control on manual. It will freeze you out. I have found that the issue involves the A/C cycling off and back on if the Climate Control is set to say 70 degrees. When the compressor turns off and then tries to cycle back on, that is when it fails and the A/C light flashes three times. I do not feel confident that replacing the compressor is going to fix this...
BTW, the dealer found code DTC p261115
There was a guy on here with an E63 AMG with the exact same issue, same trouble code, that in the end said it was a wiring problem on his car. I PM'd him, but so far no response. I traced the wires I could find and haven't seen any obvious problems. Any ideas? Thanks!
