Multi-function Switch Replacement - Reprogramming Required?

Hi everyone,

While working on installing the headers a friend broke the clock spring and I got the below part instead of OEM (figment was for C63 too and it has lane assist so I figured it’ll fit since they cover all) because I found a good deal on eBay for 1/5 the cost of the new one from the dealer.

https://mbparts.mbusa.com/oem-parts/mercedes-benz-multi-function-switch-21290048039051

I got a couple issues, I still have all lights on dashboard (constant: front left malfunction, inoperative see operator’s manual, blind spot assist inoperative, lane keeping assist inoperative. Also now I have adaptive high beam assist inoperative). Turn signals don’t work (on previous one with broken clock spring they worked). Horn and paddle shifters work and steering buttons all work (previously nothing worked).

Do I need to reprogram it to fix these issues or if I get the same old part number (listed below) that’ll take care of it? Would it still need to be cleared/reprogrammed?

Not sure of this, but have you tried to clear the codes with a scanner?

I just did and it’s still the same :/ I’m gonna order the same part number that was installed previously but now I want to check it anyone knows if I need to program it regardless if I have the same part number? Re installing the same part number clears the airbag message?

You’ll need to transplant the metal part with the connections from your old wheel to the new one

The airbag message will need to be reset/erased by someone with the proper software/hardware such as Xentry.

You need to disconnect the battery before working on any part of the SRS system or a code will be set if any part is disconnected.

The better Mercedes specific scanners can also reset the airbag, icarsoft MB II or the Foxwell Mercedes unit both are about 150 and dealer will charge half to all of that you o do it for you so not a bad investment!

Thanks everyone for your inputs!

It's just my luck, right after I ordered the same part number for the module that came with the car, today I left home and turn signals were working but all other issues were still there (I took it for a drive over the weekend and turn signals weren't working at all except the hazardous warning light). I went for an alignment because front wheels were off and when I was done, all the issues were resolved (except for Airbag, I'll need to reset the code). Lane assist works, sport handling mode works (on/off), ESC warning is gone. Not sure if those modules program themselves but all OEM features are back.

I'll probably order the icarsoft tool because I know MB dealership uses that and they'll probably charge me the same cost just to reset the code. Might come in handy in the future.
