W204 C63 255 40 18 rears seem too big?

I've got an 09 C63 with stock 18" rims. I've always ran either 255 35 18, 265 35 18 or 275 35 18 on the rears, however I've recently acquired a set of 255 40 18s that I'd like to mount until my new summer tires arrive. I've read that some people have suggested that the 255 40 18 should be no problem, however when I place them beside my rear rims, they look massive. I can't see how these wouldn't rub.

My question is, can anybody confirm whether or not a 255 40 18 will in fact clear on the back end of these cars? Perhaps my springs have settled over time.

Thank you.

It's a much bigger tire than a 35 profile tire... it will be monster trucking and your abs and traction control will throw fits unless you are also upsizing the fronts... why wouldn't you just get the right size tires?
the 40 profile tires are half an inch more sidewall or an inch more total diameter than the 35
