Loud clunk/pop when turning

Hey everyone!

Having some concerns with my C63. Whenever I make a turn at low speeds or rotate the steering wheel at a dead stop the car makes a loud clunk/pop.

Started happening after I installed LTHs. I did separate the steering column from the intermediate steering shaft so I'm wondering if that had anything to do with it as well.

Any help or advice is much appreciated!

Here's a video with how it sounds

Jack your car up and have someone turn your wheel while you lay underneath. Obviously something is getting stuck on your headers and will need to be adjusted.

Had a similar problem when doing exhaust there is a heat shield for the steering shaft at one of the joints and I hit it a little when doing exhaust and bent it in and the universal joint catches it on the way past bends it a bit and then slips off and it springs back so look at that little heat shield catching. Sounds like mine when it did that after watching the video 99% sure that may be your issue.

Thanks for all of your advice!

I got under the car and checked the steering rack shield and made sure it wasn't coming into contact with anything.

I ended up Torqing down bracket holding up the entire rack and pinion. Drove around for an hour or so and it seems like the issue is gone for now. Fingers crossed it doesn't come back 🤞
