Please can someone help. I’ve had my car parked up for a couple of months and decided to take it for a wash today, when I went back to the car wash the sunroof was open and won’t close. I can hear the mechanism click when I push the button up and down, but not when I push back (I think that’s because it’s already open) I have checked the fuse and that’s not the problem.

Try to get a STAR diagnostic on it. I had to change my sunroof control panel, and the unit had to be coded to the car (just as gearbox control unit needs), so it could be a coding problem, that could be solved by recoding the control unit. Otherwise it could be mechanical problems, and that sounds incredible expensive.

I experienced somwthing similar on my 2010.
I could hear the motor going but no movement on the sunroof itself.
If you do some research, sunroofs on W204 have this chronic issue where the gear that the sunroof motor uses to drive the sunroof on the rails shatters and then the motor spins freely, without moving the sunroof.
Replacing the gear itself is an easy DIY and you can find some threads about it here or videos about the replacement on Youtube, by looking up something like “W204 sunroof gear replacement”.
