Weird cylinder found near gear selector

Found this wedged beside the gear selector module underneath the shifter when I went to manually put it into neatral while I do the headbolts.

Anyone know what this is?

My car also has a issue when in drive on a incline/driveway I cannot shift up into reverse, it lets me move it from drive to neutral but then doesn't let it into reverse (I have to roll in neutral back down the incline onto flat ground to be able to shift into reverse). On flat ground usually it is fine but sometimes I have to release the brake a bit for it to shift into reverse, if it is pressed a bit too much it wont go into reverse from drive still. Other than that the transmission shifts great and displays the gear on the indicator fine.

Could it be related to this thing?

Looks like the internal spring for the ash tray door assembly. Im guessing yours has either come apart or has been replaced previously and parts left in there.

Ohhh yeah it does seem like that, mine works fine so it must have been replaced haha, in glad it's nothing with the transmission.
