New rotors or just pads?

Dealership inspection recommends replacing pads and rotors but upon running my own inspection the rotors are very smooth and not visible lip or bump, can i change just the pads and run another pad cycle?

So they do look like they have a bit of a lip, pads actually look like they have some meat yet on them but the only way to really tell is to measure the rotor, they have a minimum thickness printed on them so you have to measure and see how close your are.

The right way to do it is replace both and not pad slap it.

Street driving the fronts wear out by 35k miles or less depending on your driving style rears can be more or less depending on how much your traction control is jamming on the brakes. Typically with the aggressive metallic pads used a worn out set of pads mostly wears out the rotors and you really want to replace together. You have the newer style PP rotors, the 1.5 piece style, to save some money you can go with the brembo full 2 piece rotors for a lot less or even the once piece non PP rotors will fit and work fine if you just street drive the car. In all cases the dealer will charge you like 2x the price you can get the brakes changed at an independent mechanic and you can do it yourself for even less.

you could probably run one more set of pads on these rotors, but generally, with that amount of groove, its 50/50. you're on 1.5 type rotors. those are cheap. just replace the rotors with new ones. the 2 piece rotors are pricier.

Measure the rotor thickness with a caliper - but just by looking at how deep they are worn (the depth of the "lip" on the small unswept areas), I'd say they're very close to if not already below the minimum thickness and need to be replaced. And, even if you are at 0.2mm above the minimum, are you going to swap pads now and use the old rotors for another two months to only have to repeat the whole exercise?
